need advice on a handgun scope

I did not get any answers on the optics page, so I thought I would try it out here. Thanks for your understanding.

I just bought a .480 Ruger , Ruger Super Redhawk.

I am looking for my scope for it.

I am considering the Nikon 2-8 x 28 , the Burris 2-7 x 32 , or the Burris 3-12 x 32.

Any body have any thoughts or suggestions....

This will be my first handgun scope and I have never owned a Burris scope.

Thanks for your input.

Michael

Since this is your first handgun scope I suggest you stick with either a low(2x) fixed power scope,or a variable that adjusts down to that power.
There are several scopes that would work for your purposes.
Leupold m8 2x,leupold variable 2x-7,weaver,burris,nikon are all good choices. The only time you will have scope turned up in power is shooting off bench. If you try it while hunting,it will seem to magnify wobbles.

I haven't used the Nikon pistol scopes, but the Burris and Leupolds are top notch. I'm not sure what you intend to use the pistol for but have a variable with a lower power of 2x or 3x makes good sense for all around use.

I have the burris 2x7x32 on my S&W 460 and love it. It has a great eye relief and is the only scope(as far as I know) that has posi-lock. They also have a great warranty. If you go to Sportsmans Warehouse, they will mount them on a makeshift revolver and let you try them out. Congrats on the new gun!

Thanks guys .... but one more question.

On a hunting handgun.....like the 480 Ruger or similiar...Is something like posi-lock important... or even needed?

Ok I read and understand that part, but that is Burris's stance... Is it fact in the real world?

Have you shot your new gun yet? Anything that you cando to help your scope with that kind ofrecoil is a good thing! I love my scope and bought it because of recomendations from those a lot more experienced than me. But I think you will do well with either Burris or Leopold.

Both Burris and Leupold have forever warranties. I've broken two Burris scopes on spring powered airguns, and both were repaired with no questions asked. I've never had any problems with Burris or Leupold scopes shifting zero and both have good eye relief. I have long arms and have run into problems with some other brands in the eye relief area.

i would go no more than 2x if hunting 35- 40 yards or less. i would look at a fixed power or one with a big objective lens. if you go with a 2x20 i think you will see too much shadow. get a 28 or 32-33 objective lens and practice, practice ,practice. it requires more control than you think and a good steddy rest.
