My favorite choice is not in the poll. In IL there's no rifles for deer.

I'll post for a 12 gauge slug gun.

This poll is absolutely flawed. I will have no part of it because you failed to include the absolute best deer cartridge ever created.... the 280 rem. I'm done with this![:@]

That would be my vote for which caliber would you most like to own in a nice old, European made bolt gun. And if'n I had one, I suspect it'd be my favorite.

But since I gotta vote on what I own and shoot the most, its the 7-08, which is as close to a 7x57 as you'll get without acctually having one I suppose.

7mm-08 for me!

Although it is obviously gaining in popularity, I was a bit surprised to see it hanging in there with the venerable 30-06 and 720.

Will be interesting to see if it hangs in there as more votes come in. 71 votes is a bit small for a valid sample. Would like to see how things would shake out with about 300 votes.

It is just hard to beat the old 270.

It is interesting that 4th place in the poll is held done by "OTHER". shows that there are a lot of different cartridges that are used by "deer hunters".

Now many hunters use a rifle for "deer hunting" when they may have bought it with moose, elk, bear and other game in mind. "and deer" So the poll maybe does not show what hunters would prefer "Just For Deer". The one rifle they own is the one they use for everything so it is naturally their favorite "deer cartridge".
