a-bolt BOSS
hey guys I am looking at getting an Abolt .338 win mag with the BOSS system, is the boss system worth the extra coin? does it help with recoil and accuracy? any info or help would be very much appreciated thanks

RE: a-bolt BOSS
I have owned one BOSS equipped rifle and will never own another. The noise with the standard BOSS is so extreme that even a single shot without hearing protection can cause permanent hearing damage.I also found that I can get several other rifles to shoot smaller groups without the need for a BOSS.Lastly, the BOSS equipped rifles have shorter barrels that result in less velocity.

I agree. Now, if you use the BOSS CR (non ported BOSS attachment), you will have the ability to "tweak" a particular load into smaller groups...most times.
With the conventional BOSS muzzle brake attachment, you're going to have A LOT of muzzle blast, A LOT of extra noise, and SOME decreased recoil. I made the mistake of shooting a BOSS equipped .300 Win. Mag from a box stand and my ears rang for 3 solid days. Shooting from the prone position will cause the ground underneath the muzzle brake to look like some just took chipped a golf ball out of the rough with a pitching wedge. The noise and muzzle blast isn't as bad of an increase on calibers that are a little more tame like a .308 or 7mm.-08....but if you're looking at one of the magnums out there, you better be willing to wear hearing protection even while hunting or risk loosing some of your hearing! |
