RE: Remington or Savage?

i've yet to see a rem 700 that was priced within 25.00 of a savage ,i think it was a 710 rem. the savage is usually way cheaper and will shoot better.

RE: Remington or Savage?

I have a couple of both...Savage .220 swift and a .30/06. I also have two Remington .300s. Both of my Remingtons have failed me...the first was a broken extractor....two days before we were leaving for elk season. Lucky for me the bolt from my other 700 checked with the smithy and I was able to use it. The failed bolt was sent off to the same gunsmith for a Sako style extractor. The second bolt (same one) failed when the handle came off...this time it was a week before leaving for elk season. To their credit, Remington offered to fix it...but, they would only solder it back on. It was apparent that the original solder job was bad. I decided to have it fixed by having a gunsmith drill/tap/solder.

Neither of my Savages have failed. And both are very accurate.

BarePaw...

I must say that I like the savage also. I bought the savage 114 american classic w/monte carlo stock and the happens to be the best gun that I have . It is a little high in price at about 589.00 for the savage, but it is well worth the money if your going to spend it. I also put a Nikon monarchUCC 3x9x40 BDC scope on it and it shoots like a dream. @ 200 yards I can hit the X in the center of the paper.

As for looks it has a nice satin finish and looks just as good as any other gun the doesn't have the gloss finish. You can't go wrong with the savage when it comes to a nice trigger and accurate shot placement.

As for Remington it has always stood at the top for quality and BIG name! And their is alot to be said for that... like years of quality products(firearms, ammo, clothing) and thousands of owners...
So, go with what you feel is right and hold both guns... But for me I feel that I got a better gun for the money with Savage.
Good Luck,
Tom

I had a lot of luck with old Remingtons. However, I have heard that current production rifles have quality problems. I found that to be true. Even after warranty work, it would have trouble chambering 10-15% of the time. It also lacked the accuracy of the older models I have had.

Would buy an old one though.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I have never had even one quality issue with Remington. I've owned older model and newer models, shotguns and rifles. On the other hand I've never been anything but happy with the couple of Savages that I've owned. I think they are both quality products. Has aready been said, but I'd go with whichever one felt the best and that you like the best.
