Browning Gold Shotgun Safety

Well, my new Gold Sluggun did a great job this hunting season. I didn't even take a rifle out of the safe. I just used it in WV, and MD. It shot three deer in the last two weeks. One out to 120 yards which I about lost. But the freezer is filled to capacity.

But I found the only complaint but a big one. The safety on this thing is quite stiff and makes a click. I was surprised last monday to see this nice 8pt only 15 yards away going thru heavy brush. He stopped several times and looked at me so I didn't move a muscle unless he was moving. When I took the safety off, he stopped in his tracks. Fortuneatly, I found a 5" hole thru the brush to fire off a shot at 10 yards away. He never made it to my shooting lane I had for him to cross. Do any of the rest of you with this shotgun see this as extreamely stiff safety.

I just bought the Browning Gold Deer Hunter and my safety is also stiff, but I manage it using my index to push it and my thumb on the other side to make sure to avoid the stiff snapping sound. I hope it breaks in a bit over time and becomes more silent.

I have two other issues that I need to figure out. First, the spent slug shells do not always clear the gun. They get stuck in the receiver sometimes. Second, occasionally, the shells get stuck in the magazine and don't feed the next round.

Have you experience any of these? I may exchange from a new one. I never expected this type of trouble from a new Browning

Man, thats the reason I steered clear of the 1187 was seeing so many people with that problem. Definatly return if possible. I have shot mine about 40 shots with no problem like that. But sounds like a possible chamber issue. Sometimes, while chambering, at the factory, their tooling can become wore down by 2/1000ths or so at the end of cycle. If that happens, chamber can be too tight. Have you tried anymore ammo or another brand? Maybe try 3" just to see what it does. I was told not to oil the peice attached to the reciever that holds the shells and the piston slides onto. I feel for ya. Let me know how it gets resolved.

I have had no problems with my Gold 3 1/2 Turkey 24" barrel. It shoots, loads and ejects everything from 2 3/4 trap loads to 3 1/2 mag. without fail. You're the first I've heard say they were having a problem with cycling. You should definitely try to get it exchanged. After all Browning claims: "its unique, self regulating gas system allows you to shoot all loads interchangeably - from 1 1/8 oz. 2 3/4 field loads to the heaviest 3 1/2 magnums etc etc". Quote from catalogue.

I too find the safety a bit stiff and it "clicks". But I've found like Goldhunter, that if I operate it between my index finger and thumb it's OK. At least we know it's a positive safety. gg.

This gobler never heard me take the safety off.

I have heard stories about Browning taking their sweet old time when equipment is sent back to them. I have never had to return a gun, but may have to in this case. I may have gotten a lemon, so to speak.

Do gun stores typically exchange guns or do they send the gun to Browning for Browning to replace?

Good news is that the gun is very accurate at 100 yds. Better news is that I shot two deer on Thursday with the Browning and could probably be OK with a brief stint out of the woods while the exchange process happens.

The bad news, it that I'll have to reach back into the wallet for slugs to resight in the new/repaired/exchanged gun.

Does anyone have experience with the process I may have to go through?

Thanks.
