TURKEY CHOKE TUBE

Who makes a good tight patterning turkey choke tube?
I am going to use my Winchester Super-X2 with 5 or 6 shot.
And is it realistic to shoot out to 50-55 yards? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

IMO the Rhino choke is top of the line.

Kick's makes a quality tube, as does Rhino and some others..

50 to 55 yards is extreme long range for turkey shooting..There are gun/load/choke combos that will provide a sure kill pattern at that range, but they tend to be the exeption rather than the rule...40 -45 yards is a much more realistic sure kill range limit for most guns...

If I wanted an extreme long range turkey gun ( andI DON'T) I would look into some of the heavier than lead non toxics like hevishot or Nitro loads...Keep in mind these loads require special choke tubes and may not be safe to fire in choke tubes designed for lead shot..

Also, keep in mind that there are tradeoffs for extreme long range performance... If you find a choke/load combo that patterns tight enough for sure kills at 50-55 yards, that pattern is going to be VERY small at closer, more normal ranges, making it very easy to miss a bird that sneaks in and gets TOO close.. Good luck and be careful out there...

Iv'e tried tru-glow and the undertaker in .665 constrictions. I now shoot a .640 hastings with 3 inch #6 winchester supremes. Deadly combo. The hastings outshot the tru-glow and the undertaker.

Kicks, Primos Jellyhead, Undertaker, Indian Creek.... There are a bunch of good chokes. I shoot a Indian Creek .650 out of my Extrema 2 now and it patterns great.

Definately try a Pure Gold. They are expensive (bw 60 and 90 bucks), but carry a 30-day 100% satisfaction guarentee. So if you are not pleased with the results, or have another tube that shoots more to your suiting, they will refund 100% of the purchase price (just don't wait a month to test it out, or you will be stuck...but you won't be disappointed). So you either end up none the worse, save a sore shoulder, or with the best tube you have ever shot. You can't lose.

The Kick's shoot well also, but only go with them if you want to shoot LEAD ONLY!

Rhino's compete with PG for the crown of "best" turkey choke in the mass production class. Rhino's are more expensive than PGs (but not by much) and shoot not quite as good, or just a bit better than the Pure Gold's, depending entirely on the gun they are in.

I am shooting a Primos Jelly head with Federal 3.5" #5 shot and getting 8 to 12 pellets in the brain / vertebrea from 50 yards. I hear that Undertaker is a nice choke for not a lot of money ($20). The Jelly head was around $40.

Depends. In some guns yes, and in others no. My 835 with a .670 Pure Gold and 3.5" Win Ext Range is putting over 130 pellets in a 10" circle at 50 yards. I limit myself to 40, just because I like to get them close, since for me turkey hunting is strictly hunting for its own sake (although, I still stand firm that wild turkey tastes better than butterball). I have killed birds with that set up at 56 yards, but I really wouldn't do it again. It was the 11th hour of a Texas hunt, my first Rio and the weather had been horrible.

My old standby 870 would shoot great to 40 yards, with about 100 pellets in that 10" circle, but at 50 yards, it would only have about 45. Amazing how far 10 yards is with shotguns and archery tackle....

it is definitely realistic to shoot out to even 75 yards w/ todays shells. try differnet shells and chokes and whichever one is tightest use that. federal makes the heaviest bbs in the market. 15.2gr per cubic inch. hevi 13, federal mag-shok w/ flitecontrol, remington HD wingmaster, winchester elite, and remington duplex 4x6loads are the best so far for my gunand extend your shooting range. i just read an article about them and tried them. they are darn good. but dont take my word for it. different guns shoot differently. try and get at least 10+ critical hits at extra long ranges. i am patterning 37" at 65 yds w/ XX full choke and wingmaster shells w/ 17 critical hits.
