optimal barrel length for 22LR velocity...?

Could someone please refresh my memory... at what barrel length does the 22LR attain maximum velocity?

Thanks

I have read 18". After that its nothing but forward weight. Have had others say that anything over 18 will acctually slow the bullet down due to friction??? Don't know about that....

What reminded me of this was looking at Winchester ballistics on the 22LR. But then, not much powder in the little 22.

Thanks

I was informed 18" and after that the pressure from the powder was used up and the friction started to slow the bullet down

Depends on whether you are shooting sub-sonic target loads or hi-velocity loads. 16-18"

Ive read everything between 12 to 18 inches is where the 22 attains maximum preformance. A few people ive met at shoothing matches have had the barrels of the 64 anchutzs kind of countersunk so there is actually only 12 inces of rifling and the rest is basicly a tube for the front sight and the rifles shoot just fine.
