grounghog bits ?
A guy I knew told me he would shoot grounghogs and they would blow appart. Is this possible? If it is ; is it possible with a .223. What kind of round would do that to a grounghog? Maybe the V-max bullet could I guess. My .17 would blow a pop can full of water into bits. I used the V-max bullets in it. I am just guessing. It would be kinda neat to see or maybe it would be horrible to see. Do all V-max bullets fragment like the .17 HMR rounds do?

A .22LR will blow their stomach/neck/etc open, but not explosively. A .223 will blow chunks out of them (a friend managed to blow the head clean off of a p-dog Saturday using 45gr USA JHP). A 22-250 or any other fast shooting cartridge with fragmenting bullets will blow the things apart. I've torn the things up with a 22-250 before, and it's pretty violent.

there's a video on youtube of a sniper (i assume american) shooting two things that are so far away i can't even see it even when it's highlighted but whatever it is does exactly what the groundhogs are doing in the first video. pretty intense in my book.

I've exploded many p-dogs with a .223. And i dont shoot v-max bullets either. Soft point work pretty well but dont really blow them all apart. Hornady has what they call sxsp wich is an explosive soft point that does just as well as v-max's

I will never forget the first woodchuck I hit with my XP-100 in 7br.
It lifted him up, flipped him over and basically turned him inside out.
Not all hits are that dramatic but plenty are.
I have found the 220 Swift and 22-250 makes a fine red mist as well

i shoot them with a 3006 using 150gr soft points. id post pics but i got told about it on another forum. i only got 1 pic i think...but his insides are on the outside...i cant figure out why...that 30cal 150gr bullet aint opening in a groundhog...its just pulling everything out with it.
i hit one directly in the head at 50yds. he had his windpipe with a tounge coming out and a little bit of a bottom jaw...no pics of him...my buddy literally was dry heaving.
but they arent all like that...im trying to get some 110gr vmax bullets loaded up this year for the flatter trajectory of course
