Which ammo..

I have a Colt AR-15 and it says it is chambered for 5.56 nato, will it hurt to shot .223 out of it?I have been and it shoots them fine, but my question is will it hurt it..My guns has a 1/7 twist rate. And i am wanting to buy some surplus ammo to shoot because it is a hungry beast that i just can't keep fed, with buying ammo over the counter at walmart. So what would be the best suplus ammo to get and were would i get it from?

I doubt it!

Right now, Ithink there NO SURPLUS US made 5.56mm, as it is all being used in Iraq and Afghanistan!!

I could be mistaken but im pretty sure .223 and 5.56 NATO are the exact same round. Did you look at Cabelas? They always have bulk ammo.

You can shoot a .223 round in a 5.56mm chamber, just not the other way around. 5.56 is loaded to a higher pressure and could cause a rupture of a .223 chamber.

The .223 Wylde chamber can fire both the .223 and 5.56.

Check out the Ammo Oracle on www.ar15.com. Good source of information on the AR-15 as well as all types of ammo.
