223 THROUGH THE ROOF-PROGRESSIVE LOADER?

I read BC's post. Then I checked, and 223 has gone nuts. The last I bought was $1.99 for a box of 20(about 6 years ago). I bought a bunch. Now I am down to 500 rounds. I have a ton of brass. I am thinking of buying a progressive loader. I have never used a progressive. Does anyone have any recommendations? Tom.

Its not a progressive, but I recently got a Lee Classic Turret press. It reloads very fast, and set up with a Lee autod Disc it should work very well with .223.

I haven't loaded .223 on mine yet, just 30-06, and 6.5x55 at a rate of around 150/hr without rushing anything.

I am a BIG fan of Dillon loaders. I have a Dillon 550 and 650 with a case feeder. Both machines do a great job making .223 ammo. The 650 is a bit more complicated to set up and get going, but it has a much higher output rate.

While I really like the 650, if I had to choose only one progressive machine for everything, I would choose the 550. It's a great machine, and it's very easy to work with. My 550 is over 20 years old, and I am the 3rd owner, yet Dillon continues to support their product without question. You just can't beat service like that!

I had a Dillon 650 and loved it. I didn't think setup was very difficult, but I never used a 550. And their warranty is hands down, the best out their.

Tom,

I had a few Dillons when I competed. Had the .223, .45 ACP the .44 Mag and.45 Long Colt. All loaded very well with super consistancy.Their progressive systems are excellent and have what I feel to be the best warranty in the business.
I sold them when I stopped and down sized. They fetched a very good resale price because of their rep.
Good luck!
Stew

I do not have any experience with Dillon. But it sure sounds like you guys like yours. I went to their web site, it is a little vague. However I think you guys have explained it well. I did not want to spend that much(I am kinda cheap), but I guess I am going to have to. Thanks, Tom.

On another board there has ben a discussion.
Hornady vs Dillon.
Basically you can get a Hornady which compares to the 650 for the cost of the 550. The hornady is less complicated using about 1/3 less parts than the 650 also.
