Factory 223 ammo hard to get

Just got my AR. Now looking for something to feed it for some good bang bang.

I am looking for the usual cheap stuff. Is it usually this hard to get. Cabelas/natchez/midway/cheaper than dirt, alot of it is Out of Stock, No back order.

Is factory ammo usually this hard to get ahold of?

I havn't ordered reloading components in a while, maybe I should stock up.

223 factory fodder is scarce to say the least in my part of the country. MY AR is a hungry beast but I don't feel like loadin the 1000 pieces of primed brass I have ready......

About the only reasonably priced ammo in shops near me is Ultramax and Wolf. I have no interest in shooting wolf ammo in a $850 rifle, and I've heard a lot of bad things about Ultramax though I have a few boxes of it lying around. I'll shoot wolf 7.62x39 through the sks, but even that has gotten scarce/expensive in the last year or so.

Timefor you toupgrade to a Progressive/turret press. ARs eat up .223 ammo as fast as you can load the magazines it seems.

I've been stocking up on ammo at the gun show at the Dulles Expo Center. It's back on March 30th, so keep that in mind. I've seen a lot of Guatemalan surplus, but not as much as a year ago. I still see a lot of Lake City SS109, and plenty of Federal as well.

If you ever come across the British Radway Green, think twice. That crap FTF's every single time in my BM M4A3.

Almost all the sites have wolf on "out of stock". I wonder if they they quit distributing it?

I could never get the Wolf stuff to group at all. Never two shots at the same spot.

I am having the same problem. I broke down and bought an AR 15 the other day but the deals on bulk factory ammo aren't what they used to be. I did find a local shop that had 1000 rds for $300. I got a few 20 rd boxes to make sure it shots before investing.

I'm already in hot water over another thread about 223 prices! If you buy a new AR make sure you check the warrantee on shooting steel cased ammo! The components for 223 are getting thin as ammo(bullet and brass).Alot of the sites have 55 grain ammo on backorder, and doesn't look good in getting much in!I heard a rumor that the Lake City stuff is pretty much all headed to the middle east for the rest of the year!Tough to handle the idea of 400 buck surplus, but if you want good NATO ammo that where your headed.I got very lucky and pickedup 1000 rounds Mil.Surp. for a neighbor for $5.50 a box...I owe him a cold one now!Just be careful with the Wolf stuff,I've heard good and bad reviews on it.I will just restrict my shooting the ARtill things improve with supply.

I tell ya guys what, I invest heavily in metals and commodities. Watch it hard. Its only goign to get worse for everythign. No matter if its truck axles or bullets. I notice all ammo has shot up in price. The price of copper has been shooting thru the roof over china.

This is just the beginning in my opinion.

I have noticed copper prices by the amount of old wire we put in the scrap bin when we pull new wire at work, the contractors seem to end up with it in the truck never to be seen agin!We don't pull new enless we have to,meg it or ohm it if it's good leave it! With copper prices the thieves can make off with decent money in some industries now.Hey I have a 8'x4'x4' bin full or old wire....I can afford some ball ammo if I strip and sell it!:D

Ammoman has Wolf 223 in stock. It runs $200/1000 to your door.

Just click the 223/5.56 link at the top of the page for all they have. They have quite a few selections, and shipping is included in all their prices.

Yea, kindaa cheesy site. I was little worried about putting credit card info on, but as long as you vouch for him, I trust it.

Yeah, my cousin was building a 9000 sq. ft. house last year. It was getting a copper roof. The roofer had a new roll of copper delivered to the site. Well over the weekend someone stole it. I think I remember my cousin saying it was worth $1900 at the time.

2 Years ago it was much easier and cheaper to get ahold of quality blasting ammo. Winchester Q3131 and 3131a ran $5 per box of 20.Wont find deals like that now, it's either foriegn surplus or $9 a box for domestic when you can fiind it. Check out http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=318515for current prices and availability. My advice to to buy a set of .223 dies[:@]. Hopefully it will become widely available again just like 7.62x39

heh!! its opposite here plenty of .223 around here to be had except it is double in price than it was 6 months ago 5 bucks a box for wolf 7 bucks a box for American eagle and 8-9 bucks a box for surplus. 7.62x39mm is nearly impossible to find around here and when you do its 5 to 6 bucks a box of 20 rounds for wolf and 12-15 bucks for a box of S&B white box winchester and remington is going for 15-16 bucks a box.

everyone thinks the rise in ammo cost is because of the war which is partially and also partially because of gas prices but the main reason for the super jump in price over the last couple a months I speculate is because of China and Japan. Japan controls the majority of the worlds steel industry and they have been raising the price on copper like crazy probably because theres a heck of market on it right now and china is buying it up faster than anyone else. then you ask what does that have so much to do with ammo cost since only the jacket of a bullet is copper? then you gotta remember brass is a alloy made up of copper and zinc. this is just my theory its not fact but you have to wonder when japan controls the majority of the steel industry and copper is way up then you look into whos buying it and the culprit is china.
