at work today in walmart i saw a fella with a glock on his hip

and it made me wonder...

according to our rights it's legal to carry a firearm basically, right?

so as long as it's in plain view you are dodging the concealed weapon thing, right?

i was just wondering why a plain clothes "dad" type had a hand cannon strapped to his hip. i wouldn't see that being considered as a CCW and if it were why he wouldn't have tried to hide it. kind of, in a way, seems like driving around with a shotgun (unloaded of course) riding shotgun but i'm sure you can imagine that it might create a stir in some environments.

i wanted to start a conversation with this guy but i couldn't run him down without literally running him down by the time i processed the situation.

Open carry is legal without a permit in quite a few states. It might not be a surprise that the the typically pro-gunjurisdictions allow it more than those that are anti-gun.

I honestly was not aware that open carry was legal in very many places at all. Here in Texas, it is concealed carry or nothing which is fine with me. I want the element of surprise on a "bad guy".

I took my 3rd CHL renewel this past weekend, the instructor said that we can be charged with a misdemeanor for failing to conceal our weapons. I had forgotten about that one.

Thanks for posting that map.

I grew up in Montana and knew that you could carry a non-concealed weapon without a permit there and several of the other western states. Kind of suprising that you can't in Texas.

Also suprising that Vermont is an open carry state.

I wonder how busy it was at Wal-Mart and if he was in a hurry to get to his kid's ball game?

where I am from it is open carry as to why, the way the world is today I find it funny that you would ask why he would carry. Me and my wife both carry and shoot every weekend I dont worry about my wife at all if someone try to hurt her I fill sorry for him because he will be one bead SOB amd will not think twice about it. In this day and time where someone will kill you for a dollar there realy is not a choice you can bend over and take it or stand up for your self

Open carry is legal in Michigan. I've asked police officers about the scenario and they've indicated to me that you can be arrested for disturbing the peace. I guess someone will have to challenge the law. I can assure you all it won't be me. I'm allergic to lawyers.

I support the right to carry firearms. It isn't common to see nowadays so rubberneckers will cause a fuss in some situations.
