Let me know how much you want to spend and if you are looking for just rifle or rifle with scope.

"Cheap" is a relative term. If you could give a maximum dollar amount, someone on here might be able to help.

I might also suggest that this is March. If you were to start saving now, you might not have to buy quite so "cheap" of a gun by the fall.

I still think saving until fall would be the best, but if you are dead set on buying a $250 gun, you can get a brand new NEF Handi rifle in 270 for $250 or less if you shop around. Both my sons started out on these, and they are quite accurate. My only problems with them is the blueing is thin, and the trigger is rough and heavy. A trigger job would make it a pretty nice little gun.

Another option for $250 or less is a Marlin 336 30-30. I know you want a 270, but unless you are really going to shoot over 150 yards, a 30-30 is great inexpensive round that is very deadly on deer (ask the 4 that I killed this year). Also, a Marlin 336 is a very nice gun and usually has a pretty good trigger from the factory.

The Handi rifle idea is a good one, but aren't the new Mossberg ATR's around that price? If not, the Handi would be the way to go if you don't mind singe shots. Brett

The Mossberg ATR or the Stevens 200 would be in that range.

+1 on the Stevens model 200. They can be found in Oklahoma for about $269 NIB or about $350 with a scope and rings.

Get the Stevens and change the stock later when you go to purchase your next more expensive rifle = )
