Ruger M44 Sporter Carbine

I have wanted one of these since I first saw one in an article in Field and Stream in the early 70's and a local shop has one for sale. I plan to use it for MI deer in heavy brush. What do you pros say about these guns? Anything to look out for? The gun seems to be in pretty good shape although a lot of the varnish has worn off of the pistol grip.

Thanks.

I had one and had no problems with it. Think of it as a .30-30 in terms of distance ( about 150 yards max.) One thing I can tell you is when Ruger stopped making them the local gun shop added a premium to the sale price because it would go up in value (going to be a collectors item in their opinion) so watch the book value.

One of the most underrated woods rifles out there with exceptional killing power. Will only appreciate in value. Should never have sold the one I had.
