.41 mag VS. 10 MM
 

Hello all,Some of you might know that some rotten bastard broke into my house and got a few of my guns a couple of weeks ago.They just so happen to get my S&W Model 567 Classic hunter.( one of my favorites forever got the model 41 Pre"A" also that was a kick in the nuts)I have already found another one and is on order.Anyway the real question is .A lot of the guy's that hang around the shop keeping talking trash about the 10mm being as powerful as the .41.I just can't see it.I can read stuff all day long and I still would not believe that the 10 is badder than my .41's. Any personal experience.Reason being also is that I am looking at a glock.I am partial to a .45 but have several.If the 10mm is all of that .I might have to go that route being I like less popular calibers any way........Thanks,Alton

Well, you won't ever find a Glock in .41 Mag.... unless you know someone tinkering with such things. If you are comparing the 10 to the .45 ACP, then thats really a 6 v 1/2 dz choice. Either would be my top pick for a pistol caliber, but that 10 has some real arse behind it.

I assume you meant 657 revolver. Any service type semi pistol will be a step down in accuracy from a s&w 657. Yes,you can spend hundreds if not thousands on "hopping" up autos,but WHY? I like solid steel over tupperware. Ever hear of a plastic gun being handed down 2-3 generations?-even if they had been out that long. The .41 mag is not that far behind the .44 mag. If you liked your 657-why change?

No way would I trade a 657 for any Glock or 10mm!:)

stalkingbear, have you ever herd of a Smith&wesson fireing over 300,000 rounds without any failure or loss of accuracy, no and you never will! But glock has acomplished this feat. The original question in this thread was about a comparision of the power of the 10mm and the 41 mag. Then everybody started trashing the Glock. I believe S&W makes a great gun but I'd rather have a Ruger wheel gun, and until another auto pistol can beat Glock in an endurance test I say Glock is king of the hill. JMO Glenn

Had a S&W 1006 many years ago. It shot well and had the power to kick a bit of __s! Shot some bowling pin leagues with it.I have shot but not owned a S&W .41 Mag. In my honest opinion with someexperience in handguns, I'd have to say I'd opt for the S&W .41 Mag and not look back! I feel that the .41 is more accurate and offers a handloader more options to shoot. You can load a plinker or a hog killer! This cartrdige is also VERY accurate!For what its worth, I hope this helps you to decide.

Sorry guy's I guess I was not very clear.I meant to say that I already have another 657 ordered. The one I had was probally the best shooting big bore revolver I have ever owned.I will always have a .41 .The question was do you think that the 10mm round ispowerful or can it be loaded near or equal to the.41 magnum? I have been looking at some Glocks lately and was wondering about the 10 mm.I already have several .45 caliber pistolsbut if the 10 is that darned hot why not get something different.I remember when the "Bren Ten " came out evrybody was 10mm crazy.If I remember correctlythe roundwas down loaded some what cause it was to much for the Feds.But Norma still made some pretty stout loads for it. Any way I just don't believe that you can get .41 mag power out of the 10mm round.

Yes, the 10mm was for a short while, the FBI issue. The feds couldn't hold on to it and shoot well with the recoil, so it was scrapped. I would load the corbon bullets in the 10mm if you're thinking of doing any critter killing with it.

I currently own a Blackhawk in 41 and, looking at my manuals the 10 will reach the low side of the 41 with 200gr bullets.If you really want the Glock i would choose it over the 9mm or 40 S&W. Ammo will be as or more expensive than the 41 and, probably harder to find. I do not recall ever seeing any in the shops around here.

The two .41mag and 10mm were almost the same in the beginning. The later 10mm’s were down loaded due to recoil and problems involving the pistol frames cracking (s&w and colt). The cracking has been resolved but I’m not sure they are loaded now to the original specifications. If you reload that is no problem. Some hog hunters swear by the glock in 10mm because of the power and clip size (more than 6 shots and stronger than 357mag). I do know that you can order really stout loads from some small manufacturers like buffalo etc.

The 10mm can be a powerful cartridge, depending on load. A shortened and downloaded version became the 40 S&W, which is a fine round but not in the same class as a 10mm or 41. I'm not sure how it compares to a 41Mag, but a quick look at a reloading manual should give you a general idea of how the two compare.
