One's first three long guns should be:
22LR
30-06
12 gauge
Interesting, those were my first three guns. And the only three I've ever owned.

Up to her, but I prefer the 30-06.

But, if you've already got both, why not get her a 243? If you're going to be her husband, I'm sure you guys can share, and you add a new caliberfor your hunting needs. 243 is a good gun, and one day, when you have kids, the 243 will be a great gun for them to carry.

Good luck,

KP

you make a good point, but my guns are all wood stock except for my .300 ultra mag, and she likes synthetic she says wood is ugly (she's crazy) plus the pull on my rifle is a little long for her and uncomfortable. i was thinking remington m700 is sps youth .270

now the only question is what caliber? 30-06 or .270. performance is about the same with factory ammo.

.270!
Ought Six!
Tastes Great!
Less Filling!

You may as well toss a coin. If your your menu is mostly deer, go with the .270, and save the scant bit of recoil. If you see yourself going for elk/moose/etc., too, it might me nice to have the extra .03 in diameter. Even that's been open to volumes of debate over the years.
