Where can you buy a better feeling stock for a Savage

I had my mind made up, I was going to buy a Savage in a 243. I know from reading here that the Savage stocks won’t win no beauty awards. To me that’s no big deal. I’m not looking for a pretty gun, just one that shoots well. BUT!!

They don’t feel good in my hands either and that is important to me. Can you buy a better feeling stock for them? I’m looking for a synthetic stock. I do like the feel of those Choate stocks but its way too heavy to carry as a hiking gun.

That's a very good point. I did like the feel of a CZ that had a Kevlar stock but I don't think it's made in a 243. It was around 800 bucks or somewhere in that area.

If you had 600 for the gun, wanted a 243, and prefered the synthetic stock, what would you lean towards?

I would stick with the Savage because you will get the Accu-Trigger. The Stevens is the same gun without the Accu-Trigger, so if you are on a budget, you might look into them. Later on adding a trigger from the above mentioned site will get you a trigger that works very well!!

Remington SPS
Tikka T3
Browning A-Bolt Stalker
Ruger M77 Hawkeye

The Remington is probably your best choice as far as aftermarket accessories.

You're right, no CZ in .243 with a synthetic stock. They make the 550 American with a wood stock though. :D

I'm with Rammer and his choices, you couldn't go wrong with any of those.;)

ORIGINAL: Rammer

Remington SPS
Tikka T3
Browning A-Bolt Stalker
Ruger M77 Hawkeye

The Remington is probably your best choice as far as aftermarket accessories.
Good list.My preference is the 700 action but since you said weight is an issue then the T3 lite at a shade over 6lbs might just be your rifle.

FWIW this is how I'd list them based on the stock alone
(haven't touched a Hawkeye so can't comment)
T3, SPS and Browning.
