Federal Fusions

Anyone have any comments on Federal Fusion ammo? I was at Gander Mountain the other day, and it seems to be about the only thing left that's reasonably priced...

I saw that ammo at Sportsmans Warehouse and wondered the same thing. I plan on heading to the range next week to try a couple different rounds to see how they fie. The Fusion ammo is on the list. I'll report back what I think.

My friend shot a nice buck this year with a .270wsm using the fusions, it was a 60 yd shot and the bullet didnt pass through, broke 3 ribs on the way in and made mush inside, deer went 40-50 yds and piled up. Thats the only exp. I have with the fusions.

Yeah, they were wanting $16- $17 a box for their baseline standard caliber Remington Express and Winchester Super X ammo, and only $10 per box for the Fusions. I don't understand why it seems like the price of ammo has gone up over 50% in the last two years. And all the magnum stuff is just through the roof. $30 - $40 per box. It's obscene. And $40 per box for .338 Federals... What the heck is up with that? It's not even a magnum. It cannot possibly cost twice as much to manufacture a box of .338 Federals than it costs to make a box of .308 Wins.

I shot the 165 gr 308 fusion's this year. Dropped a buck that dressed about 150 lbs in his tracks at only 14 yards. Complete destruction of the heart and lungs. They also shoot about 2-3" groups at 225 yards. I will continue to use them. By the way this is the only factory rifle ammo I use. I reload for my 243, 6mm/06, 6.55x55, 7mm rem mag, as well buddies 22-250, 270, 30-06.

Its funny you ask, as Rifle magazine just did a review of Fusion ammo in their March issue and gave ita good review. I have used it in my .30-.30 and it gave 1.5" groups@ 90 yards.

i use it in my 300 mag, 180 grain bullet. last year i took a founded fawn at 180 yds, tipped it over, but the exit was same as the entrance hole. i can per ner guarantee that i hit a nice buck at about 125, but no bloodanywhere. if the shot was high and the bullet didn't expand, there would be minimal damage on the animal. its a puzzler and makes me wonder about the shell.

it is plenty accurate for my use though.

RE: Federal Fusions

I have posted this before but my experience with them is the 130 grain 270 Fusions. Nine mule deer with nine shots, All exited. the shots were from 50 yards to 225. I will never load another 270 shell as long as I can get the fusions. My 270 grouped well under one inch for three shot groups with them. GOOD STUFF IMO. One deer went about 25 yards, the rest dropped where they stood.

I used the fusions in .308 last year, they flew very well for me.
