Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
im looking at a rem. 710 bolt in 243. just wanted to know if any
body used one a these and if there any good. how bad would they blow up a coyote? |
RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
the gun would not bemy first chioce the action on a 710 is very rough but the gun is extremly accurate. If you dont mind a rough action then the gun would be fine.
good luck |

RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
Avoid the 710 if you can!! Look at the 700 SPS or the Howa 1500's.;)

RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
CZ 527 American and Savages plain package with scope in .223 Rem or .22-250 as the two quich choices.
I only use my .243 on really windy days for longer shots because of the heavier bullets. They fly a bit better in heavy wind. Savage has a 10GPX3 w/ Accutrigger in .223 rem or .22-250 with a Simmons 3x9x40 scope for $556.00 CZ527 American- no scope same calibers- MSRP $664.00 Got mine NIB at a shop in NY for $309.00 in .223- a real shooter too! Easy on the wallet and excellent out of box accuracy for a new comer. Good luck! |
RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
I picked up a Savage 110 chambered in .270 win as my first rifle. I've been nothing but happy with it at the range, have yet to take it in the field. I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $354 brand spankin new at walmart. That included a 3x-9x scope, which I hear that particular model that comes with the package isn't the best choice, but it will work for now.

Avoid the 710. Do some searches on the various forums and you'll understand. Keeping it inexpensive, I'd look at Savage.
Also, since when is the desired outcome to "blow up" a coyote? |
RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for all the info. the desire is NOT to blow them up

You could get a Remington Model 700 SPS in .223, I think they make it in that caliber, or maybe it's the .22-250. That'll cost you $500 minus the scope brand new.
Or, you could get a Ruger MKII in .220 Swift, it's a VERY accurate rifle at 100 yards, and it'll do great on longer shots if you practice. |

ORIGINAL: young ducker im looking at a rem. 710 bolt in 243. just wanted to know if any body used one a these and if there any good. how bad would they blow up a coyote? There's nothing wrong with the .243, but get one in a Weatherby Vanguard or a Savage. If you have to buy a Remington, save up your cash until you can afford a M700 or a Model 7. Look on the gun auction sites...they can save you big bucks! |
RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of folks are very happy with the Stevens 200, which I am one of them. Very accurate, reasonably well made rifle for a low price, normally around $265-$300 new. Seen a few for sale in the forums in .243 w/decent scope for about $325. Basicly, it's an older Savage w/o accutrigger in their old style synthetic stock. It makes a perfect fit for those on a tight budget and is WAY better than the Rem 710! The stocks are a bit rough, factory leaves the mold lines on, saves money, I reckon. And the finish on the bolt handle could be a bit "thicker" but overall very nice, exspecially on target paper.

RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately I own a 710. Shoots real straight, but internally it is junk. I live in Illinois, where we have to slug hunt for deer. I was invited to go on a deer hunt in Missouri and needed a decent rifle scope combo. I looked at the name Savage and couldn't do it.
Then you see the name Remington. Great name. I was stupidly biased. The 710 that I own still shoots straight, nice groups at 100 yards but the action is already showing sighns of wear and only after 100 or so rounds through it. I will not take this gun on any hunts as my primary piece. It will be used as a back-up only. $289 poorly spent. I should have bitten the bullet and spent just a little more on a 700 and put a scope on it. In fact I would have been just fine with open sights on that trip. Killed a doe at 75 yards. I coulda done that with open sights. |

ORIGINAL: young ducker thanks for all the info. the desire is NOT to blow them up took 3 "out" a couple weeks ago with a 7 Mag using 140 Gr Nosler BT's. Kinda put a hole through them. Did I mention I hate Coyotes... |
RE: Help need buying picking out a new gun!!!!!!!!!!!
i had the 710 in 243. it was pretty accurate. but as for the mechanical specs of the gun i would avoid the 710 and get a howa or savage.
