Please help! - rust on gun
I borrowed my father in laws Remington 7600 .270 win to use a few months ago. I have shot it less that 10 times. I cleaned it and oiled it before i put it back in the case.
Today I opened it up and there was rust all over in spots on the barrell. I dont know why this would have happened. It is a black barrell. Will this come off and look like it did before I borrowed it, How do I get this rust off? Thanks |
RE: Please help! - rust on gun

RE: Please help! - rust on gun
0000 Steel Wool and kerosene rubbed lengthwise with the barrel will take the rust off and leave the bluing as long as the metal isn't pitted.
There may be moisture in the lining of the gun case or it may be a vinyl case which when tightly closedcan cause the gun to sweat and rust because vinyl doesn't breath. Try leaving the case partially unzipped so any moisture can escape. |
RE: Please help! - rust on gun
The 000 steel wool and kerosene of gun oil should take care of it. Do not leave a gun in a case for a long period of time.

RE: Please help! - rust on gun
Cabelas makes something called Zips or Zaps cant remember which and it will take the rust off of anything, its has a gritty texture to it and wont harm the blueing.
