Default Determining the age of a shotgun?

Several years ago I inherited a Stevens SxS 20g shotgun from my grandfather. It looked to have been rusted and repaired at least once as the outside of the barrels is very pitted. Also the breech doesn't close all the way on the left barrel so I figure it's either old and has seen a lot of use over many years or just wasn't taken care of.

Anyway, yesterday my girlfriend wanted to see all of my guns for some reason and when I drug this one out I began wondering how old it was. There was a stamp on there that said Patented in 1905 but I know that's not necessarily the production date. Do you guys know of a way to find out? Maybe a way of running the serial number? I've never tried anything like this.

Sometimes you can tell by it's teeth.
OK OK so much for humor.

I believe some of the guys that are huge Savage fans also have Stevens s/n info

I believe that serial numbers started on a gun like that shotgunin 1959. So I believe it is no older than 1959.

I might be off on 1959 a year or two.
