savage model 11

can any one tell me about the savage 11. (like if it good for whitetail hunting, shooting, and if the gun is reliable, accurate, and worth the money or if there is a better gun for the same price)

What caliber? Synthetic or stainless? Youth or full size? Right or left handed? How very vague.

I bought a model 11 for my wife's first gun. Ugly as sin. Very low price. Her's is a 7mm-08 and it will put 3 shots in just over a half inch at 100yds using winchester 140gr. BallisticSilvertip factory loads. Savage has definately earned their rep. for putting out accurate rifles. They will usually outshoot factory rifles costing twice as much.

I have one in 22-250 and it will outshoot every other gun I own in that caliber. My kids cut their shooting teeth on it and my daughter still uses it despite having an ENCORE that I have over $600 in for her. She has confidence in it and rightlyso, she has taken 8 deer in 8 shots.

I think that Will79 hit the nail right on the head, ugly, and not all that smooth, but boy will it shoot! Mine is one of the old 111's which came out before the 11 which just means it is a long action despite the shoot crtg. It has been as dependable as the sunrise. I don't think you can come close for the money. However, you can get a Tikka or CZ for not a whole lot more and have a better looking and slicker working gun....but I doubt it will shoot a bit better.

I think in a 7mm08 or 260, or a 308 you would have a fine whitetail gun. 243 would be good too if recoil is a major issue, but if not, I would stick with one of the bigger ones.

Good Luck and let us know what you decide

I agree with Dryridge on the CZ. I bought a CZ550 American in 6.5X55. With my handloads it will shoot better than my wife's savage. I recently used it for my first elk. It has taken several deer, crows, 1 elk, 2 exotic goats, and 1 exotic sheep. It has never missed a shot at game and didn't cost much more than the savage, looks a LOT better too. I really like the single set trigger they come with, but the savage now comes with the accutrigger so they are about equall on that part. I would still go with the CZ.

The Savage 11 is a blued, short action rifle. Some variations have sights, some don't. I personally preferclean barrels without sights, because I always use scopes. It comes in several calibers and is an excellent rifle. I have its big brother (long action) the Savage 111 in 270 Win. and 7mm Rem. Mag. They are GREAT shooting rifles. Both of minehave the Accutrigger. Its an awesome trigger!

The Savage 11 is a good rifle. If I were getting one, I'd get a 7mm-08 or 308 Win.
