This is indeed the only way to compare calibers, keep everything else as consistant as possible, like using the 08 casing. All this tells you is bigger game bodies require bigger bullets.

You can neck it to 375. Some have tried necking it to 40 caliber. However at this point there is not enough shoulder to headspace. Of course these bigger bullets would eat up the powder capacity. Gotta go to the 45-70 for Cape Buffalo and T-Rex.:D. I could try the 405 Wichester for these big guys. Teddy R. loved the 405 in the 95 Lever action rifle and took all the African species with it. Of course now-a-days its much to small for these critters.

The most important question would be to ask the deer that were killed with each of these calibers to find out which one is more dead.

Really there are so many great cartridges and bullets you can combine with these calibers and each a tremendous in thier own rights.

You could go forever debating the strengths and weeknesses of each of these and all the variables for every application under the sun.

I dont know what all the talk is about the 30-30??? IMHO its a dated round. Some of the slugs i shot thru my rifled 12ga. have better ballistics, retain more energy, and are just as fast, out to 150 yards! on top of that im sure they could be more accurate as well as i could shoot sub3.5" groups at 100yds. I would never buy a 30-30

Also, people cant compare a round based upon howa deer dropped and then say "well my buddy shootsthis and the deer ran for 200yds". too many variables are there shot placement, bullet type. You must look at the facts.ballistics for the most part are fact. things to consider are trajectory,(how flat does it shoot) velocity, (whichcoresponds totrajectory) energy (relative to both velocity and bullet weight) and more important than muzzle energy is down range energy. I could shoot a deer in the head with a 22LR drop him dead @ 20 yds. does that make it a good deer rifle.......probably not. people tend to judge things based upon their experiences only and dismiss their own error too quickly

hey shot davis what was the most common calibur they were using on that 375 yard shot. maybe people were over exagerateing the shot and heltd too high. what was the cal that nailed it first shot at the known range??
