need a 1911!!!UPDATED PICS
Well guys it is that time of year,i get my income tax back friday and im going to add to my arsenal of firearms. So after i pay off a previous loan off(taken out to purchase AR-15) i am headed to the gun shop to purchase my first pistol.I want an 1911, i saw a s&w 1911 stainless with black grips in 45 acp for 450.00.i really dont want to spend over 500.00 so would it be possible to find a good 1911 around that price?

RE: need a 1911!!!
I know springfield makes two differant GI version's that are just about or under 500 msrp. I think kimber makes one and as you know s&w does as well. There are some cheaper ones out there, but unless money is real tight, I'd stay away from those.

RE: need a 1911!!!
The S&W for $450 sounds like a really good deal, if it's in good shape. It's used, right? It got good reviews in the magazines (take that for what it's worth... S&W pays for a lot of advertising...) and it's got more bells and whistles than the Springfield government model.
I really don't think you'll find a Kimber in your price range. If it were me (and I've done it, twice) I'd save a couple hundred extra bucks and get a hi-cap. I got a stainless, ParaOrdnance P14-45 Limited for about $750. Holds 14 rounds instead of the government model's 8. |
RE: need a 1911!!!
$450 for a S&W 1911 is a screaming good deal, used or not.

RE: need a 1911!!!
Yeah that s&w is used but there is no scratches or dings on it,it is real sharp.I thoought it was a good deal also but i wasnt sure because i never have purchased any pistols before..Im pretty sure im going to get it this weekend if it is still there.I will post some pics when i get one.

RE: need a 1911!!!
When I was looking at 1911's I was sold on the Taurus 1911's, but they weren't available to the public yet. I ended up spending a little extra and Got a Kimber Custom II. I paid 600 for it, but damn it is a tack driver straight from the factory...

RE: need a 1911!!!
Several of the employees @ my local gun shop bought Rock River 1911's in the $400 range, and they upgrade them piece by piece, paycheck by paycheck.
Then they try to sell me Ed Browns & Doug Koenig S&W's! Ok so those are some SWEET freakin' pieces...!!!! I started with a Kimber Eclipse II, & I'm really happy with it. FC |
RE: need a 1911!!!
Remember the S&W doesn't use regular 1911 mags. Buy the Springfield.

RE: need a 1911!!!
I bought the SiGARMS GSR 1911... All I can say is SWEET... Best 1000 bucks I spent:D

RE: need a 1911!!!
3 words of solid advice.
Kimber, Kimber & Kimber. If they don't have a 1911 to your liking-you don't need one. Great pistols and especially for the prices offered at. |
RE: need a 1911!!!
S&W is nice but don't use same mags as rest
I would go with Kimber but the Springfields are about the best in your price range. |
RE: need a 1911!!!
well i went to my local gun shop yesterday to see what a new in box springfield 1911 would run me,and he told me a little over $700.I think that i was finding them on gunbroker for like $500.What do you guys think,is $700 too much for a springfield?
|
RE: need a 1911!!!
Springfield?! I said KIMBER!
|
RE: need a 1911!!!
That can't be the mil-spec Springfield for $700, they sell for under $500 everywhere. I bought one some time ago and had some stuff done to it for IPSC. I traded it in for a P-14. Stay away fron the S&W. Kimber is top shelf stuff for sure but the Springfield should serve you well. If you want hi-cap the P-14 would be a great gun. You should be able to find one used for around $500. The main thing is you're starting out with the right idea, a 1911.

RE: need a 1911!!!
well guys thanks for all of the info,it really helped me decide which one to get.I got it yesterday a springfield 1911 A1 45 acp.i havent shot ityet because it is raining and windy right now but as soon as it stops im getting out there.I took some pics of it and i will post them as soon as i get them developed.I paid total $561.00 tax and all and it was new in box.Just curious what ammo do you guys use??

RE: need a 1911!!!
When I shot IPSc I loaded my own. For fun use whatever FMJ you can find thats cheapest like UMC and the like. FMJ would be the best for a stock 1911. If you plan on using it for self defence make shure you break it in with at least 200-300 founds first . Then find a JHP round that your gun likes. Some semi-auto's are picky about what they like. I had several boxes of Black Talon's I kept for self defence. I've also had good luck with Speer Gold Dot ammo. Any quality JHP will do the job. 45 acp is a great round.
