Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I went around town today trying to find a left-hand .243. All I found was a Remington 700 CDL for $645 and a Tikka T3 stainless synthetic for $625. Which is the better rifle? I would like to have a BDL but Remington doesn't make them in left-hand any more. Any suggestions? Thanks.

RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I have a 243 CDL and i absolutely love it. I would have a hard time parting with it even if i were to get a Tikka. I am a Remington guy and always have been. I have heard and read nothing but good things about the Tikkas. If i weren't a die hard Remington guy I would definately consider a Tikka or Browing.

RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I bought my wife a Tikka Ts in 7mm-08 and it shots awesome. I have owned a Sako SS 75 (7mm STW) for 7 years now and bought the Tikka because of the accuracy of my Sako. Sako developed the Tikka brand before Beretta bought them both out. They guarentee 1" MOA out of the box and I can confirm it with my rifles. I just shot a Doe last week out around 400 yrds dead in the shoulders! Remington makes a good rifle, have a 700 mountain rifle for my son in 7mm-08, but it is the second one because the first one didn't hold a good pattern with any bullet or manufacturer that I tried. I'd lean towards th Tikka!

Which one fits you better? Whatever flies to your shoulder "on its own" is what you want. Both oughta shoot well enough for almost any sane kind o' hunting.
The CDL happened to be the one that wanted to come home with me! Good Luck, FC |

Skeeter- Doesn't the BDL also have a cheek piece and the CDL is just a straight stock? I actually like the CDL better, IMO.
Just buy the rifle that fits you best, either well will most likely out-shoot the person pulling the trigger. |
RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I ve shot both, but i am a fan of the tikka a tad better/.

RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I'm a remington guy at heart but I bought 2 tikka t3's this past summer and both of them are shooters. The bolt is so much smoother than any of my remingtons. I got one in 300wsm and another in 308. The 300 will shoot right an 1" and the 308 is in the 1/4" area on 100yd groupings. I think the 300 would shootunder an inch aswell...it does tend to make you flinch a little though. I'm going to put it in a lead sled and see how it does.Personally I would say Tikka...they guarantee it to shoot1"or better @ 100yds. Where's remmy's guarantee?? Get what feels good though. If your not comfortable with it you won't be happy with it.

yeah at one of the stores i got to hold a tikka t3. it was a real nice rifle. bolt was real smooth. but it just didn't feel right when i put it against my shoulder. that's why i didn't get it right then and there. i agree that you should hold and get the feel of the gun before you buy it.

I've got a Brow & a Remy but I gotta tell ya, I've yet to hear anything bad about Tikka.....

RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I'd buy the Tikka T3 any day.
It has features and accuracy of rifles that cost 1\2 again as much. It's a nicely designed rifle and if you do much walking up and down hills, you'll really appreciate that it's not too heavy. |
RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
If I had the money, I would opt for the CDL over a Tikka T3. The CDL's are part of the higher end guns that Remington makes.

RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
ok. i actually found a NIB LH BDL .243 at a gunstore. it's only $700 which is the about the same of the CDL. i liked the tikka a lot but it just didn't feel right when i held it against the shoulder.

Here's a review of each of the rifles. CDL I'm sure is a pretty well made rifle a pretty good/not fantastic accuracy results reported by this writer. I don't like the 7 lbs. trigger pull pressure he says it's set at from the factory. If it's not adjustable, that's a problem.
http://www.gunsandammomag.com/long_guns/remcdl_122804/ Tikka T3 is a heck of a rifle for the money and very accurate. (tested for groups of sub 1" at 100 yds at the factory before each rifle is shipped. Floating, cold hammered barrel of the more expensive Sako (same company). Adjustable trigger that comes from factory at around 3 lbs.. Resessed end of barrel. Palm swell. Nicely balanced. Solid rings come with the rifles and mounting system will not allow your scope to move. Very smooth action. I just saw an add in a Sporting Goods chain that they have some wood stock and blued barrel T3s on sale for $559 after the season. How can you beat that? 2 articles of review/testers of T3: http://www.ssaa.org.au/newssaa/101-StoriesReviews/rifles/tikkat3.html http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQY/is_4_50/ai_113853244 |

RE: Tikka T3 or Remington 700 CDL
I dropped-off my CDL at the 'smith's for a trigger job just yesterday. Out of curiosity, I asked him to gauge it to see what the "before" number was. With 6 tests, it averaged-out to about 6#, 13 oz. And to think, I'd been able to shoot some pretty good groups with it like that!
I guess I should feel pretty good about the guy's instincts about guns: he bet me lunch that it would measure out to "just under 7#"after he he dry fired it only twice. I'll post an update when I get it back. As for the rest of the rifle, I'm more than pleased. I've heard many good things about T3's, but the CDL fit me like a tailored glove. The way I figure it, it's wonderful if a gun will print tiny groups from a bench, but that's not how it happens in the real world. When I've just run up the side of a mountain, and a trophy elk steps out of nowhere at < 100 yards, I want a gun that rises to my shoulder by itself, and settles immediately into the perfect place for me to make the shot. With my heart pounding & my lungs screaming, I just want that first shot to go somewhere close to where it's supposed to. I won't have time toadjust the rifle on my shoulder 'til it's just-ever-so, wiggle my hips & shoulders around 'til I have a perfect sight picture, & go through my breathing cycle several times. It's gotta be mount-and-BOOM. So long as a rifle has a good reputation for reliability and durability, and it fits me just right, that's good enough for me. FC |

I read it and decided Chuck like's high end guns with fancy stocks .........hardly the guy I would choose to review a low end gun !!! Let's go ask Matt McPherson to review a PSE Nova package from Wal-Mart and see what he says about it !! :D |
