RE: 300 win mag
Depends alot on stock design. Seriously, a 150gr load with 4350 powder is like a 180gr 06 IMR7828 load thump wise.
Now, I am loading 77gr of RL22 with 180gr bullet, and it start thumping pretty good. Not as bad as say a 3" mag slug thru a pump.
Now, I have had several RUM's. Thats where the thump gets to a point of being serious.

At the range siting in the scope will be a bit of a pounding. But once you have it sited and especially when you're hunting, you'll not notice the recoil shooting at big game. You'll be so focused on the animal, the recoil is the last thing that you think of. And if you hit an animal in the vitals and/or front shoulder, it's not likely you'll need a 2nd shot to keep the animal down. I like the .300 WM a lot!

Like mentioned weight, stock design and fit will play the biggest part in the recoil factor. All things being equal though the 300 wm is about the tops for most shooters, tolerable but certainly not tame. If you can handle shooting heavy 3006 loads you should manage a 8.5lb 300wm. It will be more but not by a huge margin unless you start pumping out 220 gr pills then she might make you take more notice. Installing a recoil reduction pad would be an option as well. They do work in terms of felt recoil.

I have one in a Ruger no 1 and its not much more than a 270win to me. I can fire atleast 40rounds off the bench before feeling the effects. I once bought a 300win in a remington 700 adl to this day it is the worst kicking rifle I have ever set behind. I sold it fast. Weight and stock design especially in magnum rifles.

I don't think it's all that bad. However if you are already event he slightly shy about recoil I'd avoid it. I would say that the 300WM is at the tops of I will tolerate for recoil. I can't see me ever getting a rifle that kicks harder. Or needing one.

Mine's a Ruger 77 Mk II, and it doesn't bother me any more than a .30-06. I was surprised it wasn't worse. Even my Ruger 77 .338WM isn't bad.
Both are much better than a Rem 870 shooting slugs from the bench. An 870 will really hurt me after awhile, neither of the Rugers ever have.
