Kahr or Glock?
OK, I am looking for a CCW! Ruled out the Taurus, and I'm still considering Bersa. I'm considering spending more, and I'm now considering Glock and Kahr! It will be hard to overcome the "ugly factor" but, both come with high reviews! Does anyone here have experience with either of the compact .45 ACP's?

RE: Kahr or Glock?
I have had my CHL since Texas first offered it in 1995 and have carried a number of different handguns from, Sig to Glock to S&W. My favorite "carry" gun is an airweight S&W M38 Bodyguard 38 spl. I have never owned a Kahr but have handle a few, so I really can't attest to their service record. I do own 2 Glocks (a G23 40 cal and a G17 9mm), and I really like them both. I leave the G23 in my nightstand and carry the G17 in my truck. What I like about Glocks is that they are easy to "trick out". I have replace the trigger, all the springs, and firing pin and plunger with custom parts and both my guns. I am not a Glock Armorer, and it was really simple to do.
Another thing to consider is how many law enforcement agencies do you know of that carry Kahrs as the service weapons? I don't know of any, but I know of MANY that carry Glocks. There has got to be a reason for that. |
RE: Kahr or Glock?
If you looking at the glock or kahr I think you are looking at the ultra compact guns, the glock is good so is the Kahr. I would also include Springfield in the mix. The glock is a good gun, not accurate as I like, springfield is good also but again not as accurate as I like. The reasons glock are so popular with LEO comunity is the cheep price and simple to maintain. Forget the Bersa.
Decide on the size gun you want first, don't focus on the name. I carry Sig or a Wilson Combatcustom 1911. I do love the Glock 19 though, if I were looking for a one gun on a budget that would be it. |
RE: Kahr or Glock?
I'm now considering Glock and Kahr! The main difference (in the subcompacts -PM45 vs G36) is going to be thickness, grip shape, slide finish, and capacity. If you want to change to lighter caliber, then the Glocks also allow you to carry a double stack high capacity magazine as backup or for the primary magwhen inthe nightstand for travelling. The Kahrs are flatter and lighter, but the Glock holds more ammo by 1in the G36 slimline, and by 5 in the G30. The midsize and full sizeGlocks fit me fine, but in the subcompacts I like the Kahrs' fit much better, but that's just me. Good luck, hard to go wrong with either one. |
RE: Kahr or Glock?
I have looked at both guns a lot lately. Both are good quality, and both have good reputations. As funny as it sounds, I think the Glock has a better trigger. The Kahr trigger reminds me of a squirt gun. That's my only hang-up with the Kahr.
I think I will propbably end up with a G23, instead of a sub compact. It's still plenty small for carry purposes, large enough to fit my whole hand on the grip, and it holds plenty of ammo. Thankfully, high-cap magazines are no longer an issue. |
RE: Kahr or Glock?
gloks are light the special forces hate them they jump too mutch. gloks are good guns but there too light they dont have problems with jamming and other things you wouldent want in a gun but what type of shooting are you after if its tactical combat simulations and stuff like that dont buy a glok but if its just plinking at targets go for it you wont need to be too speedy for that. i have a colt m1911a1 and it is asweet gun the most reliable handgun out there i want to buy a springfield model aswell but i really like my gold cup coltbut theres nothing compact about them if you want compact i dont really know id have to get back to you on that issue

RE: Kahr or Glock?
I've owned a Glock 26, Glock 22, Glock 23, and my next purchase for a CCW will be a mini Glock .45acp. I've carried Glocks and Berettas on the job. Prefer the Glock over the Beretta any day. My recommendation would be Glock. I don't own a Kahr, and have only known a couple people who have and they like them, but in my hand they feel like a cheap cap gun.

RE: Kahr or Glock?
I have two Glocks and would get a third if I were shopping for another defensive handgun. I have a G23 and a G35, both are ultra reliable. I dissagree about the recoil issue as Glock has the axis of the bore sitting lower in your hand than the others, thus muzzle flip is reduced. One fact of life you can't avoid is the weight issue, when it comes to recoil less weight means more recoil. As for the Springfield XD, I would steer clear of them, and only for personal reasons,as they may be a great gun! Pick up most any gun rag and flip thru it, you'll see from two to four full page adds and usually one artical bragging this thing up, a little to much paid push for my liking. After I talk with real people who own them I may chang my thinking. The Kar may be a great gun as well but I haven't fired one, they tend to resort to negetive advertising more than I like. I personaly have never fired a 1911 of any make that was as reliable as the Glock, a little more accurate yes, and they tend to be more ammo sensitive. I'm a big fan of coked and locked, but not the gun that you use it on. These are only my openions, Glenn
