new 7mm STW advice needed (Ridge Runner???)
I just picked up a new Weatherby Accumark (Mark V) in 7mm STW. I want to set this up as a long range (300+) rifle, and I am wondering if anyone can recommend some good factory loads and appropriate scopes. Ridgerunner, you seem to be a big STW fan....what scope do you have on yours? Let me know what you think. Right now I am looking at a Leupold VariX-III 4.5-14X...should I go for the 6.5-20X? Is there another brand I should consider for under $600? Thanks for your help. One more question...which has better long range(300+) performance, the 7mm STW or the 300RUM ?

Ridge Runner,
Thanks a lot for the info! I am definitely going to get one of the two leupolds we mentioned, but I am not sure which one yet. Wow, 408 yds is a mighty fine shot. I will need a lot more practice before I am confident enough for that, but someday it'll happen. I checked out your website, and it is pretty cool. what is that really long rifle you have in the first deer picture under the big bear picture? Is that your 7mm STW? It looks pretty nice. How long is that barrel? Where are you from that you only have 125 lb bears? I am moving up to Fairbanks, AK in a month, so if you ever want to come up to shoot some big blackies or anything else, let me know. I have not fired my new STW yet, but I will let you know how I like it when I do in a few weeks. Rob |

RR,
It looks like Mr. Bansner makes a fine rifle. How tough is it to get him to make one? I am definitely interested. How much does something like that cost, and what do I need to do to get one? I am jealous. I have never owned a custom rifle, but I think it is about time for me to get one. I just dont have a clue how to get one or where to start looking. PigDog |

Banser rifles are great weapons. I saw several articles on them and then met him up at the sportsman show in Harrisburg, Pa. That was several years ago but i think the prices ranged from like 2000-3500 depending on the action and what all you wanted it to do. As far as the STW, my cousin is geting ready to buy one off of a friend. Not really sure if he needs that for the kind of hunting he does, mostly short shots in thick woods. I just cant wait to see him shoot it, he is like 6'3" and 140 lbs, so it should rock him pretty hard. Ridgerunner what part of WV are ya from, im in hardy county
