Vietnam M-40 Replica

Question:

I was watching "Myth Busters" last week and they were exploring the myth of a sniper shooting through the scope of an opponent sniper.. Long story short, the scop stops the bullet..

But while they were shopping for a rifle, they were at a gun shop and the shop owner had a "Vietnam Marine Sniper rife (M-40??) replica" for sale. It looked like an M-40 but with a nice walnut stock. Definitely had a Remington bolt.

Anybody know of this rifle or replica? Did Remington manufacture some replicas?? Would be an interesting purchase for sure..

Cheers.

I saw one on the rack at Cabela's yesterday, parkerized metal, straight grain walnut stock chambered in 308 win, didnt get a price on it though. I beleive Remington made a run of these last year.

Yes, Remington made about 1000 or 1500 of these last year, in conjuction with the Marine Scout Sniper Association. Came in a nice green box with a dude painted on the front. Wood was stained about to period. Had a true to its roots metal butt plate, green military sling, heavy barrel, and special serial number.

We had four come through our shop, two were special orders, my boss bought one (I don't know why), and one went on the rack. I think we were selling it for around $1100...who knows. Its just a commemorative that isn't gaudy looking.

Looks like a nice rifle, but it's too pricey for practical use, IMHO. I'm looking at the 700P and 700LTR instead. I can have it accurized and still have money left over for the price of theM-40 copy.
