1895 or 1895 Guide Gun??

I am considering getting a Marlin 1895 series. I will be hunting in Easteren Pennsylvania and upstate New York. I was just wondering what everyone would recommend. The regular rifle or Guide Gun? It will be used on deer mostly andthe occasional bear. Any input will be appreciated regarding accuracy, recoil, etc. thanx.

I have a 22" 1895 45-70. I use it for deer. Recoil is not bad at all if you use 300gr bullets for deer. Handloaded 405gr bullets can get up to some heavy recoil.

There is no real world difference. Some minor differences in barrel length and being ported. It comes down to personal preference. Both will do an excellent job. Have you looked at the cowboy??? Tom.

I just bought the Cowboy model. Have not shot it yet but if it ever gets above Zero and If I get my cast off. I will be out there.

I have a .450 Marlin and the accuracy is excellent. Though with the muzzlebrake even with ear muffs it is loud. As far as recoil if you shoot it off a bench it really kicks, but freehanded my buddies wife shoots it. It will knock her back a couple feet but she says it is not too bad. I do know anything you shoot with will not go far.
