Why is the laminate version cheaper than the wood, when the opposite is true with the tikka, by a considerable ammount?

I would think the laminate/stainless would be far more expensive.

any thoughts?

That's an excellent question! Usually the wood or synthetic stocked versions are cheaper than the laminated ones. In the Sako 75's, the laminated Grey Wolf ones were more expensive than the wooden stocked rifles too. Perhaps with the 85's they have developed a streamlined (cheaper) process when the laminates are produced. Heck, maybe they are contracting out the laminate stocks to a cheaper source... like China for example. Who knows, not me that's for sure.

anyone else? Im really thinking about getting this gun, but nowhere around here keeps them in stock for me too see/feel them.

the laminate is seriously about 100 dollars cheaper, when with almost all other firearms they are usually $100 dollars more expensive.

Are they using very expensive wood on the 85 hunter and using cheaper wood on the laminate?

Has anyone seen the laminate and does it look just as quality as the hunter?

From what I’ve seen in the pictures the Sako 85 stock looks similar to the Tikka stocks. I haven’t seen the 85 series up close but will be checking them out if they still have them in stock. I’m also going to inquire on the differences in price between the laminate compared to wood...

I looked at / fondled an 85 about 2 months ago at a nearby gun shop. It was wood not laminate. The wood was nice, but not fancy. I did hear that the Lam Tikka stocks were made in the U.S. but the Lam Sako stocks weren't. Don't know for sure. I'll be going by that shop later this week and I'll check their inventory for Lam versions. If so, I'll let you know what I found out...if anything.

I was just in the Sako website and it didn't appear as though the .338 Win Mag was available anymore. Could this be possible? I would find it hard to believe that any gun manufacturer would discontinue making one of the most popular calibres out there???

yeah, we were having this discussion in the gun review forum, but able ammo has it listed on their website, i just don't know what the deal is. There is a video on the beretta website showing a sako guy explaining the gun, and said many of the "big calibers" will be out in 2007. i don't know if the .338 was included or not...hopefully, because that too is the caliber i wanted my sako in. I contacted berretta by email and they are supposed to get back to me within 3 business days, so ill let you know what they say about the availability of the caliber.
