Ithaca M37 screw-in chokes
 

I have a Featherlight 16 ga. made back in the early '50s. Right now it has a full choke, and I'm really wanting more options. The gun is in great shape, considering how old it is and how much it has been in the field. I'm debating whether to just get screw-ins put on the original barrel or see if it's possible to buy another barrel with chokes and not cut on the old one. Any opinions/advice or other options I haven't come up with yet?

I believeyou'd be better off buying a new shotgun and leaving your current gun alone. For a gun that age, barrels would have to be hand fit, and choke tubes would not be an option. Based on cost and availability of barrels, you could get a new gun for the price. Those 16's are pretty desirable guns, so I would think you could easily sell it if you wanted to.

I personally would keep it as is.

Yeah, I've put it off for years now because the thought of altering the gun that drastically makes me cringe a little. On the other hand, I'll never sell it so resale isn't an issue for me. Also, it's all I use for dove and rabbits and I would love to be able to use it for quail, pheasant or maybe even turkey. I'll probably think about it for another 10 years.
