Check this! Check that! Your problen is one of the main reasons I would never depend on a semi-automatic for personal defense. In a bad situation you have no time to check anything! If you had a revolver you would simply pull the trigger again. With a semi-automatic you are dead! Have you ever wondered why an EXPERIENCED officer always carries a revolver for a back up. I know many senior officers who dreaded the day that they were made to carry the semi's.

Semi's may be the "IN" thing. But I can assure you of one thing. They will NEVER be as dependable as a good quality revolver. If you are going to buy a pistol for an inexperienced wife or loved one-my advice is to always go revolver. Tom.

I have also had alot of duds in my box of cci .22 lr. at least three per box

HEAD0001. I agree. I have several semi auto pistols and they are dependable but my alwasy carry gun is a 2 inch 38 Snub revolver. It weighs 17 OZ and is very accurate at self defense ranges. A gun has to be light for me to carry. A heavy gun will most likely be at home if I really need it. A guy may carry a heavy gun until the new wears off but then it gets stuck in a drawer somewhere. That 17 OZ is border line for me. However it has enough weight to be shootable and light enough to be almost un-noticed. It handles the 158 grain FBI load very well.

IF an obstruction is in the bore, the bulge or burst (and of the barrel, not the case!) takes place at the spot where the obstruction was when the bullet hit it. A boreobstruction does NOT cause the base of the case to blow out, it destroys the bore......

Tom, no doubt, strictly speaking, the revolver will work as you say.

However, in over 38 years of military service, during which I fired literally thousands of rounds of GI .45 ACP hardballammo in issue GI M1911A1 pistols, I never experienced ONE gun malfunction or one ammo problem.

The only time I had anyproblems was when I was using an "accurized" or match-grade (read "fooled with") pistol, and even then, it was a GUN problem, not an ammo problem! The issue arm and issue ammo worked every time! That's enough to convince me that that particular gun, when used with GI ammo, is reliable enough to bet your life on.
