Shotgun Slug Question
I have a Remington 11-87 with a 28" barrel light contour. My question is what choke do u shoot them thru?? It's also smooth bore barrel. I bought Winchester 1 oz. riffled slugs. I don't want to damage my gun, I figured I would ask before I shoot.
Thanks. |
RE: Shotgun Slug Question
any slug marked "rifled slug" are made for a smooth bore barrel.any slug marked "sabot" are intended for rifled barrels.although either can be shot through either type barrel you should stick to the rifled slugs for yours.the best choke for rifled slugs is the improved cylinder, imp. cyl. may be on the choke rather then the whole word.

RE: Shotgun Slug Question
What would happen if i shot the slug thru the modified choke? would it damage the barrel?

RE: Shotgun Slug Question
It would not damage the barrel but it would deform the slug and probably wouln't be as accurate. Some guns can shoot a mod. choke and slugs great, but most have the best accuracy with an open or imp. cyl.

RE: Shotgun Slug Question
i have a rem 1100 2.75.
i use a full choke with 000 buckshot ans brenneke slugs through it. ( i know they say not to do it but i have never had a problem with that setup ).people say to try differant lead slugs. but i have found shooting lead slugs in any smooth bore you will not get decent sub M.O.A groups like you would with a rifle or rifled barrle with a scope. i also have a 21" rifled barrel and have used regular lead slugs and rem copper solids with iron sights. ( i think to optimize the rifled barrel you have to use a scope ) |
