1100 or 870
i have a small problem of deciding wether next year to use my dads remington 1100 or my grandpas 870 in deer season in mass. i hope you could help me decide.

If it we me and without knowing if either has a rifled barrel or the age of either firearm, I would go with the 870.

It more depends on what you want to shoot out of it and which one your more comfortable with. id rather have the 870 because i like pumpsbetter but an 1100 would be nice to use also. I dont kow much about the 1100's the one i have i never use it dosnt like to cycle light loads with it and shoots to the right and low for some reason. Its very old. My grandfather got it when he was younger and gave it to me when i started hunting. But id rather have the 870 and get a rifled slug barrel for it.

I bought an 1100 and a Hastings rifled barrel. Put them together and topped it with a 2.5 power bushnell scope on an Asquare mount. (had to have the mount epoxied to the reciever side and then the bolts tightened a bit.That way the reciever was not squeezed by the tight bolts, which had stopped the action cycling)
With Federal sabot slugs it will shoot 2 3/4 inch three shot groups at 100 yards. After having this slugrig for several years, I took the slug barrel off and put the original vent rib smooth tube back on. Took it out on a sweet goose shoot, where I had the birds landing 40 yards from my blind. That 1100 points and swings just right for me and I had no trouble killing my limit of canadas and a few mallards as well. Robin in Rocky |

Take them both to the range, and see which one shoots better with the slugs you plan to use.

I think ipscshooter hit the nail on the head. If I were bird hunting I'd pick the 1100 just because I prefer autos to pumps for my own use. For deer hunting, I'd pick the most accurate weapon.

my dads is a skeet 1100 it shoots a preet good slug group with its smooth bore, and the wingmaster 870 i havn't shot but i am gonna take them shooting soon and see whats better.

if both guns had rifled barrels and all the same specs why wouldn't you use the 1100 over the 870? 1100 will obsorb recoil in the gas operated mechanics. 1100 is prolly a little heavier which will obsorb more recoil. Quick follow up shots with the 1100. I have used the 1100 20ga to shoot deer and man it is deadly!!
