Winchester Model 88

Havedo any ofyou guys had any experiance withthis gun?

I saw some pics online, and they look cool, but that's all I really know about them, other then the fact they're a lever-gun.

Also, how much do they usually cost? I'm asking this 'cause my dad's been pretty interested in one after he saw one in the Tennessee Trader a couple days ago.

The only drawback I can see is the lack of parts.
The Win 88's and the auto loader , Model 100 are nice guns and usually are not cheep

the pre-64 models were plain stocked with normal checkering. post 64 models had a basket weave design in the stock.

i have a post 64 in 308. its a good shootin gun. works flawlessly. i killed my first deer with it and put it away. back then they were going for about 650 here. now they seem to go for 850-1000 or so. thats why mine is in the closet. and its not technically MINE per say. it was my grandfathers who passed away when my mother was really young. dad kept care of all the guns after that. then when i was young i took over the job and cleaned all the guns inside and out atleast a couple times a year just to keep them oiled..and whiped the outsides down monthly atleast. grandma allows me to shoot them and now she lives with us so i keep taking care of them like always. but she never GAVE them or it to me. besides my mother my grandfather has 2 other kids with my grandma. neither hunt or anything..and i know me and grandpa would been an unbreakable pair...but my one uncle is money hungry and the aunt would give it to her son that hunts once a year and doesnt own a gun cleaning kit(no joke!)

but i love the gun. good shoot..solid gun..and the post 64 is a looker for a factory rifle.

Milo Hansen used one to shoot the current B&C#1 typical white-tail buck near Bigger Saskatchewan. I tryed one for awhile (belongs to my father-in-law) but didn't kill a B&C buck with it.

A lever action .308, sounds like a real fine "bush gun" to me. I mostly use a Sav. 99 in .300 sav. which is just about the same thing.

I never had one personally but I know someone who does and he has great luck with it, as in it works fine.
Me on the other hand I had a model 100 and it jammed all the time I sent it back to winchester to solve the trouble but it did not, still kept jamming
so I got rid of ot for 200.00. My Dad had the same gun in 284 and it was the same. I tried everything to make it work because I like the way they shoot. But no luck!!!!
