Winchester Model 70 rebarrel 300wby to 375h&h...

Hey all,

I have a Model 70 chambered in .300 Wby w/ a boss brake system...I was debating Re-barreling it for a .375 H&H. I have wanted a .375 for a while, and havent done anything w/ the .300Wby since I rebuilt my 7mm Rem Mag. Where do I start in reference to what barrel manufacturers to look at? Also, will I have feed issues, or run into any snags with a conversion of this type? I mean is it basically just swapping barrels or will I have to modify the bolt etc? Is a swap of this nature even cost effective???? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks before hand,

Frankie

How about, you just buy a Ruger # 1 in .375 H&H? If you are wanting it so bad, it would be worth it.

Already looked at the Sako 75...almost bought it, but that doesnt solve the problem of the 300 I never use, and isnt worth selling. Also doesnt do much for me wanting to build a full custom rifle either...but really, thanks for the enlightening idea that I never would have thought of on my own.

You should be able to doa simple barrel swap. The 300 WBY is based on the H&H case but with less taper and a steeper shoulder. Feeding should require little to no work. you won't need to do any work at all th the bolt face ans shouldn't need to do anything to themagazinesince both use a magnum length receiver.

RE: Winchester Model 70 Re-barrel questions...

I spoke to Krieger and Hart...now starts the confusion of barrel contours and tapers. Hart hasnt started doing .375 yet but will be in this 1/4. Mike at Krieger was super helpful... I have to see if the stock I want will fit the barrel contour etc...someone want to run me through the basic mods to a post 70 action? I can recite Model 700 mods in my sleep, but this is the first Win I am playing with...thank you for the input guys...appreciated.
