Help with 270 ammo
well im looking forward to next year for me and my 270. I am wanting to know which of the 2 ammo choices would be best. both shoot great out of my rifle so no need to worry about that. The choices are 150gr Federal Fusions and Winchester 130gr silvertips. Most of my shots will be under 150 with the majority under 80. So give me reasons why and why not to use both

deer, whitetail

RE: Help with 270 ammo
I would go with the silvertips. I have experience with them and like them. I don't know anything about the Fusions. But if you have two tags, just try them both and then let us know the outcome.

RE: Help with 270 ammo
Neither...use Federal Premium 130 gr Sierra SPBT...My brother and his son have used these on 50 deer or so, they work...

RE: Help with 270 ammo
Hi Cougars,
I can't imagine that at those distances on whitetail that it would matter at all..Whatever shoots best out of your gun would be my recommendation |
RE: Help with 270 ammo
Either will work fine but seeing your shots are on the close side it doesn't hurt to slow it down at the muzzle and go with a larger gr bullet. I say give the 150's a go.

RE: Help with 270 ammo
I saw some Federal Fusions on sale at Midway the other day. There was some 280, and I believe there was some 270. It might be worth looking into. The 280 was $12 a box. Tom.

RE: Help with 270 ammo
I use Federal fUSIONS IN THE 130 GRAIN IN MY 270. So far nine shots, nine mule deer. I would never had use for a 150 grain bullet in the 270. It gained its fine reputation with 130 grainers.
