22 LR AMMO

I just bought a 10-22 with a Green Mountain target barrel with a match chamber. This is my first voyage with a match chamber in a 22LR Semi-Auto. I am assuming that I might have a functioning problem with some ammo. I added a Titanium extractor to assist in extraction. I am looking for high velocity hunting ammo. Any recomendations? Anybody with any 10-22 experience, and a tight chamber? I would like to be able to shoot Velocitor. Anybody have any experience with it. Tom.

I have used the greentag* ammo from CCI. It can be hard to find, but it is accurate, and for the most part, the bullets are identical. Greentag is competition ammo, but high velocity and great for rabbit, coons, squirl, fox, ect...
You should not have a prob with Velocitor though. They are both from CCI...buy a box of each and try em out.

I only shoot 10-22s

With some ammo, you will experience problems. This is usually related to the bullet being engraved by the rifling when chambered. This is created by the short throat of most match type of reamers.
Now for the good news. Most problem ammo will be the cheap bulk type.
In high velocity for hunting,CCI mini mags are the most consistant, accurate ammo out there. In subsonic ammo, you can go with any of the top notch brands without worry.
All match type ammo, including cci green tag,is subsonic. Almost always,
match ammo will provide flat out, hands down, git e done, best accuracy.

My bad...I thought Greentags* were not sub-sonic. Oops. They are very accurate though!

ive always been a fan of CCI. stingers and minimags always shot well for me..

if your looking for optimum accuracy try some standard velocity ammo. i was told by a professional indoor shooter that they will shoot better than high velocity stuff...and it did for me. the diffrence wasnt enough to change my hunting ammo from stingers or mini mags...but if im shooting groups standard was always the way to go...

A few years ago I tested a whole bunch of different ammo in a few of my .22's. The best fast ammo I tested was the CCI Velocitors. I got 1 inch groups at 100 yards and the drop at that distance was pretty decent compared to some of the other ammo I tried.

That does not however mean it will shoot well in your gun. Most guns are a bit picky about what they shoot well and it pays to test different ammo, which is what I was doing.

I don't even own a .22 any more though. I have a 17HMR now and for any more than I shoot a rimfire it suits my needs well.
