Guns at Walmart
Now I know that Walmart is a touchy subject for many of you. Just bringing it up might be like sticking my balls in a bear trap, but here we go... There are a lots of haters and supporters of the nation's largest retailer. I know that Walmart has discontinued sales of guns/ammo in over 1000 of its retail stores including the entire state of California.
I was wondering if any of you have been directly effected by this. In Georgia, they have not discontinued any sales to my knowledge."They" say that it is a regional thing, and they are trying to cater to a neighborhood's individual wants/needs...this involves ceasing the sales of guns/ammo. Do any of you buy guns/ammo from a Walmart near you that has discontinued the sales??? Comments? Concearns? (I am not out to start a flame war!!!) This is one of many articles... http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB114502845796126154-jcrkfu5PX8z0BQRHMo7IhpzeqCQ_20070415.html?mod=blog s |
RE: Guns at Walmart
I would never buy any guns, ammo or other hunting supplies from the Evil Empire!
Only TP, cat liter and important stuff like that. |
RE: Guns at Walmart
Walmart continues to sell guns at the 2 stores near me. I have purchased 3 of my guns there. Ialso purchase some of my ammo there.
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
So you will put their product aginst your bare a$$, but you wont defend your home with them...strange. Just dont shop there all together then.
You ARE entitled to your own opinion, so its cool... |
RE: Guns at Walmart
All the stores here in my area in Pennsylvania stopped all sales of firearms. Some of them still sell ammo though.
I was kinda bummed when I found out about it. |

RE: Guns at Walmart
I've never bought firearms from Walmart because I can get better deals else where. I have bought Pyrodex powder and a few BP supplies from them. I have 3 Walmarts within 6-7 miles of each other and all 3 dumped their guns right at Christmas time but I understand they will continue to sell ammo.

RE: Guns at Walmart
Wal-Mart cur-tailed the firearms sale in selected stores due to LACK of market demand.
Some months ago, I was in one of three Supercenters in town when I noticed the firearm display had been removed. I prompted one of the associates to fetch one of the stores managers. The response was detailed; the store that I was in had sold 13 firearms in the past 10 months. This in a city of 200,000+, in a county of almost 500K![:-] This lack of sales, in conjunction with the Wally-Mart classification of a "Rural" store was what the corporate decision centered upon. If a store had below average sales, and was considered an "Urban" or "Suburban", the sale of firearms would be discontinued. "Why keep a stock, when there are literally no sales". Just my two pennies... |
RE: Guns at Walmart
CS,
I shop at the WalMart stores in Cordele and Fitzgerald because they are the closest. At the store in Fitzgerald, the manager and the guy runing the sporting goods store told me it was, as you said, a local issue and had to do with the amount of sales. I also shop at several different gun shops withing 50 or 60 miles, but I will say, if WM is cheaper, I will buy there. So obviously, I haven't seen a problem in my area. dog1 (A Happy Shopper) P.S. I only wish they had those blue light specials like KMart use to do. |

K-Mart-----------
How long ago has anyone seen firearms for sale there? |
RE: Guns at Walmart

RE: Guns at Walmart
They still sell them here in NY , but no pistol ammo w/ out a permit. I believe in capitalizm , so I support Walmarts right to exist. however I think its time to start weaning myself off the cheap chinese goods, so I just do my grocery shopping there. As for guns I prefer to buy used guns ,there already broken in and guns made 10 or more years ago were made much better .They put plastic on everything now!

RE: Guns at Walmart
i buy winchester ammo for my 30 06 there and have absolutly no problem w/ it
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
yeah they stopped selling in my part of Louisiana too (never thought that would happen) but I still buy ammo from them because they're reasonably priced and I don't see the point of paying 3-4 dollars extra for the sake of supporting the "local guy" who drives a better truck than me and lives in a larger house than me. Just my .02.

RE: Guns at Walmart
The Wal Mart here where I live at has taken the guns off the shelves but not the shells. I don't buy my shells there anyway I buy them at a local trading post.
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
From Pike county, Illinois to Kearny, Nebraska. All Walmarts in between on Hwy 36 still sell guns and ammo. I bought a 20ga for my daughter in Macon, Mo last spring and it is one of the few remaining small Wally Worlds.

RE: Guns at Walmart
Most of our WalMarts still sell guns around here . I have purchased a couple of guns from WalMart . Never a problem . I hit the local ones at the end of hunting seasons and buy up the clearance items ! :)

I bought shotgun shells at our Walmart a couple weeks ago. Can't beat the case price on target loads.
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
I have 2 WalMarts that are equidistant from me, one sells guns and ammo the other only sells ammo. Funny thing is that the one that doesn't sell guns is the one that has the hunting stuff on the shelf when you want it. The one that sells guns is always sold out when archery and muzzleloader season is a week away.

RE: Guns at Walmart
Walmart = PETA, I Buy NOTHING from walmart!
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
Really, the three K-Mart Stores in Fort Wayne, Indiana stopped selling firearms over five years ago and two of them closed almost immediately after being aquired by SEARS.
This is sad. |
RE: Guns at Walmart
I asked our sporting goods guy about them not carrying guns anymore due to 'a rumor' I had heard. He said it all depends on how many sales there are. He said too that our store has sold 11 in one day.
Ive only bought 1 from them and is been about 7 yrs ago. The only reason I did is because the place I normally buy them didnt have and couldnt get what I wanted in time. And we have a kmart still and they still have them in stock (although ive never seen anyone buy one.) |
RE: Guns at Walmart
BowHuntingFool - Could you please educate me on the Wal-Mart = PETA connection? I have been away from this forum site for a number of years due to my occupation and do not understand the impliedconnection. Please e-mail me if you want to. Seriously, -Steve |
RE: Guns at Walmart
They sell guns and ammo in every Wal Mart around here. I don't see them stopping.
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
other than purchasing archery stuff there, i havent bought much in the way of firearm "goods",, i have bough a couple boxed of shotgun shells there and most of my BP stuff, but i buy most ammo at are local rual king, becuase i get a discount there because my mom works there,,,and now i can get BP stuff there as well as fishin stuff, but i still buy some hunting stuff at wal-mart,,but usually wait for most thing to go to gander mountian

RE: Guns at Walmart
Thanks guys. That gives me an idea of whats goin down. |
RE: Guns at Walmart
Walmart has been doing alot of changes to try and compete with stores like target. Look at the removal of the lay away plan last year. Walmart has lost a ton of money due to that and has admitted looking back it probably wasnt the best descison.
Walmart is trying to clean up its appeal to the public and some damage control for bad things that have happened over the years. Another thing they try to do in regional areas is appeal to a higher end crowd. In areas around city's and burbs where appeal means more to the folks that live in the area than what they used to be known for which was a bargain. Yeah i shop there, even worked there once as a second job around christmas once and my wife currently works there now. I am not trying to defend them for all the stupid crap they have pulled over the years. They have come along way from what Sam's value's and ideas were when he started they whole thing up and made it the #1 bargain in america. |
RE: Guns at Walmart
I have bought guns and ammo from Wally world and will continue to do so.
I just HATE fighting the crowd. I don't buy all my ammo there. I reload 3 of the calibers i shoot so I get those supplies from a gunshop, but if I could get em from the Wallbucket, I probably would. |
RE: Guns at Walmart
I have bought 2 guns a Walmart...can't beat the end of season deals. I absolutely AVOID going there most of the timebecause the damn Super Stores are so big that I usually end up walking all over the store 5 times looking for the things that I need. I agree with the earlier comment about shopping atthe 'small guy'. I would love to support them, but most of them are stuck up a-holes anyway. I am lucky that my wife is in the military and we can get most of our stuff in the post exchange and commissary....TAX FREE!!!!

RE: Guns at Walmart
You bet, Jake. When I was in you could get a great deal on all kinds of guns at the Rod and Gun club on base. If they didn't have it, they could order it for you.
I ordered a Henry Golden Boy in 22lr at Walmart and it came in pretty quick. It's pretty, and it's a little tack driver, but I think I'm going to give it to my Dad. I shot a couple thousand rounds through it and went back to my 10/22. I guess the new wore off for me. Ha. |

RE: Guns at Walmart
Many of the guns I currently own, come from Wal Mart, they are not second hand quality, or anything like that, they are just less expensive, because of Wal mart's presence in the marlet place.
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
i have bought several guns from Wal Mart in Lawton. The prices were right. There is nogun store in Lawton:The closest is inDuncan where the guytries to sell you a Browning regardless of what you want.
|
RE: Guns at Walmart
Not that I have ever bought any guns from Walmart, but I like to look. We just lost our guns in Plattsburgh,NY this week. They have been gone from Syracuse for a long time now. They were trying to sell the display case for $1,000 or best offer. Seems like it would be kinda neat to have 15 guns in a lighted, rotating, and lockableplexi-glass case.
KEJ |
RE: Guns at Walmart
I like the rotating glass case idea. But that would mean I'd have to move something out of the only room in the house my wife doesn't try to change on a monthly basis.

RE: Guns at Walmart
Was looking at 22's at wally world in Coldwater, MI (South Central part of state) last weekend and the lady workin the gun counter (actually fairly knowledgable) informed me that they are going to discontinue sale of firearms in March 07. She also stated, FWIW, that ALL MICHIGAN stores are going to discontinue the sale of firearms... how ACCURATE that information is i have NO IDEA... I also asked her when they were putting all remaining firearms on sale.. to which she said they weren't and they were goign to return them to the MFG or distributor... which with the size of wally world MIGHT be a viable possibility... anywho.. i'll keep an eye on their firearms for a SALE... 200 dollar 700 ADL's and 100 dollar 10/22's would make my day :D
