.45 or .50 cal.
o.k. i gave up on a rifle because theres onle one thing you can usse a rifle for in ohio and thats predators. So im going to buy a muzzleloader. You can use it for deer and predators. What i want to know is should i go for .45 cal or .50? it would be for me(13) and dad(not gonna say:D)

I'd go with the .50 cal. People hunt and kill deer with smaller caliber MLs, but I'd have a bit more confidence with the extra bit of lead. You'll have a little bit better selection of projectiles as well.

Get the .50, it is more versatile and there is more selection for accessories and what not for them. An inline muzzle loader shooting sabots will use 44 or 45 cal bullets in a 50 cal barrel.

I would go with the 50 also. That is the most popular caliber and they make all kinds bullets for them. Plus every manufacturer has a 50cal. version of every model. It's like the 30-06 or 243.

Most of the newer inlines I have seen in .45 have not been as accurate as their .50 cal counterparts (same model). I have no idea why, might be totally random. But, .50 stuff is readily available, and with a saboted bullet, gives you plenty of ummpphh out to 200 yards in most cases. |
