Yes, yes ear protection. Don't forget the eye protection and all that flying debris as well.
If shooting from a bipod in the prone position, make sure to close your mouth. You'll only make that mistake once.

I'm curious. Do they usually crown a barrel and then thread it for the muzzle break? Did you have a separate piece made or did he drill some holes in your barrel?

Listen to the advice above. It will be very loud and you can blow up a lot of dust. Eye and ear protection. Hearing loss is cumulative. Easy to protect.

there has been an extra piece added to the end of my barrel. I am well aware that it is louder and I wear ear & eye protection anyway as we all should.
My buddy who did the work for me already has a muzzle break on the 300RUM and I have fired it several times and it is louder but not to the extreme. I don't shoot from a bi-pod or the lying positon so that is not even a cocern to me. I shoot from the sitting or standing position 99% of the time.

I prefer the missonary position myself. If you can't handle the recoil get a lighter cartridge. Icant stand when people put onmuzzle breaks then show up at the range sitting beside me all grinns whilethey piss off everyone around becausetheir gun is so loud we all have to stop shooting and wait until they leave. Sorry I just have no lovefor breaks at all. So bragging about them rubbs me wrong. If you MUST use one please be considerate and sit on the far edge of the range.

Well I don't have to have it on there just wanted to add it. I am also not concerned about going to the range and bothering anyone as I am the only person there 99% of the time and the people there wouldn't mind it anyway.
If you don't like breaks then don't put one on!!!
