.22 hornet

Do you shoot the .22 hornet caliber? What rifle do you have that shoots it? And what game do you hunt with it.

Gust got my first .22 hornet. Its a CZ 527 fs. I plan to use it for varmets and small wild hogs. Here it is.

Got two of them currently. One is a Savage model 24 F with 20 guage under barrel. The other is a custom BSA Martini single shot with 26 inch barrel. The BSA is a K-Hornet.

I saw that sweet looking rifle once at the gun shop. I found it handled very well except they wanted two arms and one leg for that sucker. I wouldn’t mind having one if it wasn’t for the price. Nice looking rifle...;)

I have a nice little, lightweight Daniel Fraser (Scotland) falling-block single shot in .22 Hornet. It weighs 5 lb with scope, and has a 26" barrel.

The Hornet will definitely do for what you plan to shoot. (The Eskimos in Alaska kill Polar Bear and Walrus with the.22 Hornet!!)

One of my favorite loads is 4 grains of Unique and the Lyman .225415 cast gascheck 45-grain bullet. This load equals the .22 long rifle, is accurate, and good for target practice and shooting pigeons around the barn!

You probably should change that to "have killed", as last time i saw anyInuits hunting, they had 300 Wby's and were useing a Boston Whaler in the open water. They just don't live like they did in the 20's and 30's anymore.

BTW, many "Inuits" take exception tobeing called"Eskimo's" these days too.

And for many years and even some today still use the .22-250.:)

I have an NEF in the hornet. I use it sometimes for deer and hogs, neck shots on deer and head shots on the pigs. Was going to try a body shot this year on a deer but never really got the oportunity and the seasons almost over.
I did take a small pig with it with a body shot. The hollow point came apart and the little pig had multiple exit holes, he did go straight down though.
Took a 180lb porker this year with it, 40 yd head shot and he went straight down. Tried a to shoot some cottontails with it but it blew them to pieces.

Ive got an older savage 110 in 22 hornet, I use it for fox, coyote and jack rabbits. I watched a native knock down a mule deer with the same calibre,, with a long long shot for a hornet!
