T/C prohunter 22-250 question

Hey guys,
Just ordered a 22-250 in the prohunter and was all excited until I read some posts on the encore. Some people are not having good luck with them. I ordered this gun for accuracy in groundhog hunting and target shooting. It is topped off with VX111 6.5x20 40mm, so I have a lot of money invested. Did I make a wrong move by buying this type gun? Does anyone have this gun in this caliber? Please, any information will be greatly appreciated. By the way guys I am new and have enjoyed reading all the posts. I have learned a lot.

my encore 22-250 is extremely accurate, tho i do find the 223 more enjoyable to shoot and the twist rate can handle heaver bullets.
how far do you plan on shooting? any thing less than 300 yds the 223 will do just fine. farther than that the 22-250 or the 243 with light bullets.

Crump 116,

I purchased the standard model 22-250 with synthetic stock and 24" barrel a few years back. I got bored with it pretty quick, mostly cause it shot cheap ammo so well, that there wasn't much of a challenge to it. I don't reload, and couldn't see spending a lot of extra money on premium ammo when I most likely couldn't improve my groups. I've only used it on paper, but at one time seriously considered using it as a deer cartridge due to my confidence in shooting it. The 22-250 is a great cartridge and should be excellent out of the pro-hunter configuration. You will know if it is a "shooter" very quickly. I can't even fathom being bummed out or worried over a gun you haven't even shot yet. I'm completely confident the gun will be a great shooter (If you can shoot straight?). I will say though, I've never swapped out barrels in my gun so I'm not sure how smooth the interchangeable barrel deal works. For what it's worth, I own a 44 magnum encore pistol and it too is a great shooter.

I have the regular series Encore. In different Cal,I love it. 7mm rem mag, 12 ga, and 50 cal BP. All are very accurate. Looking to get a smaller cal for varmit shooting and target. I have had no 2nd thoughts about my purchase of this gun. I think you will be very happy with your choice of gun.

i also have much interest in some info on this topic. i have a encore with .280rem for long range and a .444 marlin barrel for brush gun mode. i'm thinking about building a predator gun once the tax return comes back. i'm planning on either .223 or .22-250 26" heavy barrel. i will be shooting at ranges between 100-500 yards. i'm leaning towards the 22-250, but it would be nice to have it be able to have ammo that will interchange with my AR. i'm planning on topping it off with a nikon monarch 6.5-20X, leupold is a little out of my price range, even though i love leupold and own many of them. i just don't know if i'm going to get a factory t/c barrel, or a custom match grade from bullberry/match grade machine/yadda yadda yadda. i haven't seen much feedback for the differences between the accuracy of the two.

There are a lot of things to like about the Encore rifles. But I doubt if you will ever see these dominating the benchrest field or the 1,000 yard competitions. The two piece stock is not going to hold zero like a bolt action rifle free floated in a quality one piece stock. Theydowell enough for most field hunting scenarios, and can produce some really good groups; but that first shot out of a cold barrel can wander, depending on weather conditions, more than what I can live with.
