The Old and the New

Santa has been coming early for a bunch of people on this website so I figured he should make an early pit stop by my house as well.

This past friday I became the proud new owner of another rifle. My father gave me his Rem 700 BDL 30-06 to hunt with and i really love the rifle, but seeing how it was my fathers and I dont want to tear it up in the brush and all that good stuff, I decided to purchase a Rem 700 SPS Stainless 30-06 for myself. Now we can go hunt together (whichwe've never done because we only had that one rifle)with the old and the new. I know my fathers rifle is old but im not quite sure how old, does anybody know how to tell. The stamping on the barrel is 6274987. Merry CHRISTmas to everybody!

I am sure that if you contact Remington, they can tell you when it was made. I had one in 1976 that looked an awful lot like that one. I think you will like the SPS. I have had several aready and all were very good shooters. Good luck hutning with your Dad.

The BDL I bought at K-Mart back in 1975 had the RKW finsh on the stock. The same finish that is used on Bowling Pins. Like a fool, I sold it in 1977. It looked like the second rifle in your picture.
