270 Win Factory Ammo -

Is there 270 Win Ammo that is loaded to higher velocities and limited to use in only Modern actions?

I ask because I'm wondering - if there is hotter than 'standard' ammo available over the counter, how much of the gap between the 270 Win and the 270 WSM can be closed up with the correct ammo, while not reloading?

Chantecler mentioned, there is that Light Magnum stuff. Otherwise... I'd assume most any .270 could use it... it isn't like 8mm Mauser or 45/70 where there are some old military rifles not up to snuff, .270 was always a high-intensity (for its time) cartridge.

And it's just fine now. I miss mine, will prob get another one day.

If you are looking for speed just get a box with a smaller grain bullet. If you want to hunt deer with a fast bullet try to find a box of the old winchester fail safe 140gr.The .270 is already fast and is good for a kill shot out to 400 yards so I dont know why you need any more speed anyways.

A 130gr bullet is already going to be moving very fast. I have shot some reloads that are using a magnum primer that are supposed to gain a few fps also.

All factory 270 Winammo is loaded for "modern actions". The term "modern actions" orreceivers refers to anything made to Mauser 98 standards. The 98 was designed in the 1890's. The 270 Winwas desgined in the 1920's, for the Winchester Model 54 which was basically a copy of the Mauser 98. So, since the 270 came about after the 98,pretty much all factory ammo is loaded as hot as you're gonna get. But like Chantecler said, if anyone loads hotter, it'sHornady.

Thanks for the explaination Ranger. I probably could have worded my question a little better, cuz I was wondering "if" as much as "who".
