Hi, i hunt in alot of thick bruch but someodd reason i got a craven for my .30-30, i owna .270 and where i hunt its a hundred yards max to shoot. im just out high school and know guns and ballistics by back my hand and have alot of firearms but i have killed 8deer in the last 3years and the longest shot i taken is 70 yards i have killed deer with a .280,7mm mag, .30-06,.30-30. like i said my max is 100 yards and own opening day i had 6 deer no futher than 50 yards from me and i just feel like the .270 too much, what do yall suggest, im also getting a .45-70 this summer.

I would suggest .338 Win Mag.

I'm confused. You say your feel like the 270 is too much for your close-in work? And you're going to get a 45-70 this summer. You have a hankerin' for a 30-30? Are you asking for cartridge suggestions?

If so, the 30-30 is an excellent choice. So it the 45-70 you mentioned. The only 'beauty' I think you left out of the short-range brush gun is a 44mag lever action. Any of those three are about at good as it gets for 150yards in. Then again, the 45-70 can be stout on the recoil.

I would suggest a .35 REM

Well I have a Henry Big Boy in .44 and I can tell you I haven't picked up my 30-30 since buying it. Why?
My soon to be Tikka bolt will be for stuff farther out than the .44 can handle, so there is really no need for the 30-30 imho.

I would suggest a 35 remington or whelen. You probably couldn't go wrong with a 44 mag or 357 mag either. Have you ever thought about hunting with a handgun?

Just about anything will kill deer inside 100 yards. Just use the gun you're best with.

.338-378 Weatherby, little stout on recoil, but would knock 'em dead within 100 yards.:D

Yeah, kind of a confusing read. First of all, have you tried reading your own post? Anyways, from what I gathered you are asking which gun would be the best for your style of hunting? You cannot go wrong with your 30-30, thats what it was designed for over a hundred years ago. Nothing wrong with the .270 either, you just need to make sure that you use the right bullet for the job or you may have pass thru shots that dont do enough damage. Idunno man, you may want to chime back in and tell the good guys here exactly what you are after. Wel:Dcome to the forums.
