Mossberg 835 Ulti.-Mag
Anyone have this shotgun? If so how does it treat ya? The gun really appeals to me thats why I am asking, seems really similar to the Rem. 870.

Good, reliable shotgun, not too much different from the Remington 870, I had one, and it patterned great.

RE: Mossberg 835 Ulti.-Mag
With proper maintenance, I'm sure it would last forever.

RE: Mossberg 835 Ulti.-Mag
yea I like the fact it can use 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2" loads, thats the biggest thing I am looking for!

Thats why I bought mine, it is a very versatile gun.

I have one and it is a very versitile gun. I have taken pheasant, dove, quail, duck, and turkey with it. Very easy to maintain and it has never failed me.

i love mine. mine is one of the first models, it has the longer barrel and is not braked. i think the new one's are "panzy'd" out too much.

Good ole mossberg shoulder tenderizer! I bought one about 7 or 8 years ago and killed the crap out turkey's with it. It patterned pretty good with the factory choke and great with a rhino choke I bought for it. I bought it strickly as a turkey gun. They are a very reliable gun. I've only cleaned mine about 3 times. I did get rid of it this past summer. Ifound a used 870 w/thumbhole stock and they gave me a good deal for trade so I did it.
The only thing about it is due to its light weight, 3 1/2" turkey loads will whoop the snot out of you. When I patterned it about 3 shots was all I could take. It was brutal even with a simms pad on it. 3" was not as bad you could get maybe 4 shots in before you had to get your shoulder put back into socket. I will say its the only gun I've ever shot at an animal and felt it kick me. I took a friend of mine turkey hunting one morning as he was passing through on a business trip. I let him borrow that gun. We had a gob pitch down and come strutting straight to us. He got up to about 15 feet and my buddy squeezed off. The bird went to flopping and I jumped up and ran to him. I turned around to see where steve was and he was laying on his back moaning. He thought the gun had blown up on him. He didn't know what happened. With all that saidit was with out a doubt a turkey slaying machine. Well worth the punishment when an old bird was flopping around out in front of you. |

I agree with onebadf250, it will knock the crap out of you when you put those 3 1/2 in mags in there.I bought mine about 3 years ago, i was going to start turkey hunting but i just could not get into it enought. So know i just use it to squrril and rabbit hunt. But watch out for those 3 1/2 mags.:D

RE: Mossberg 835 Ulti.-Mag
i never got into turkey hunting. i use mine for deer hunting, it patterns buckshot great with those 3 1/2's

Camocop:
What choke do you use and what type of buckshot for deer hunting? |

I was kidding. 3" is tollerable for the most part. My wife got me a browning gold 3 1/2" a few years back and I now do all my turkey hunting with it. I will use my new 870 for the first couple of kills. That auto is way easier on your shoulder!

RE: Mossberg 835 Ulti.-Mag
I think the 835 Ulti-Mag I got is like 15 years old. It's strictly a turkey gun. I find the gun rather heavy compared to the 870 but this gun is the balls when it comes to turkeys. The 3 1/2" mag loads will beat the crap out of you on the first shot, guaranteed, and this has a ported barrel. I was patterning it one time (first time I shot the gun) and one shot was all I could really take but I kept on for about another 4 shots and my shoulder was hamburger after that, it was sore a week after. The guns patterns very well. I have a kick's gobblin' thunder choke on it and at 30 yards that guns sends 3'x3' boxes spinning into the air, that's how much energy is in the shot. 3" shells are nothing but a love tap compared to these loads, no exaggeration either.
