sighting in at 15 yds
i went to the range today with the .270 and 30-30 and it was a 15yd range. the guy said if i aimed at the bullseye and i hit an inch low that at 200yds that it would be perfect. is this true?

RE: sighting in at 15 yds
My advice is the same as always, the only way to know where you're going to hit at 200 yards or whatever distance is to actually shoot atthat distance. I would not trust a 15 yard (or 25 or whatever) sight-in.

RE: sighting in at 15 yds
They make ranges that short? Whatever you were at, I don't think it was designed for centerfire rifles! Like the above poster said, unless you fire your gun at the intended range you won't know what it's gonna do down there. And unless something is terribly wrong, I'm sure you will be hard pressed to determine the accuracy of those guns at such a short range, where you would likely be shooting though the same bullet hole even if you're printing groups a few inches across at 200 yards.

RE: sighting in at 15 yds
15yards?? are you sure this isnt an archery range. Just a hair off one way or the other at 15 may be off the paper at 100. I wouldnt waste any more ammo shooting at 15 yards if I were you.
50 yards would be the minimun I would use to sight in a rifle. Dway I read both your posts and it seems like you are having some probs with getting set up. If you want you can PM or email me and I'll give you any help you many need. Sounds like you need some TLC on getting going. |

The 30-30 will be much further off at 200- after 150 yards, the bullet drops very fast. You need to be dead nuts on at a shorter range though, a 1/2 inch off at 15 yards will put you at least 7" off at 200. You will also need to verify your zero at the range you will shoot it at if you have any hope of cleanly harvesting game with it. |
