RE: Coyote Rifle
The Rem 700 in 22-250 will serve you fine for a yote gun.
Brod Man, Where you from? are you East,West,South, centeral, Deep south? I live in centeral Montana and most of our shot are 75 to 400+ yds on yote's.We don't bait but call, calling is very effective way to get your dogs.Get you self a rabbit distress call a rabbit skin on a stick and a squeker call.Run about 200 ft of 20 lb fishing line out to the skin on a stick, give a couple squeals on the call and shake the stick. A yote will pick up on that movement 200 yds away and come on a gallup.Put the squeker call between your knees, when the yote closes in to 200 yds or so,squeeze the sqeaker. He'll hold up for a few seaconds, just enough time to put a 40 gr slug through his shoulders. RE: Coyote Rifle
.243 WSSM or .22-250, both are the flattest shooting rifles you'll ever find. i would say the .22-250 is good to about 400 yards and the .243 to 450-500

RE: Coyote Rifle
I kinda have a liken to my .220 swift for yotes. I also have a bull barreled .243 that works well

RE: Coyote Rifle
what about a 204?

RE: Coyote Rifle
I'll give another nod to the 22-250. It's got more of the good stuff than a .223 and is still readily available unlike the 220swift. The perfect balance. No recoil worth mentioning only the price of ammo. It's alot more than a .223...but still in line with any other popular high-power rifle cartridge. I however, would suggest finding a maker with the 1-12" twist barrel. This knocks out he the remingtons (Which is what I have). Savage I believe makes the 1-12" twist and perhaps a few others. Why do I say this? So you can shoot the slightly heavier bullets without wondering if your barrel will stabilize them. (55gr and 60-64gr). My remington doesn't do poorly with 55gr....but I've only shot them out to 100yards.

RE: Coyote Rifle
Given my choice of the 270, 6mm, 22-250, 223, 204 ruger & 17HMR
Ill choose the 204 ruger for coyote more often than not. Still if any of the other guns is in my hands when I come across a coyote at a acceptable range. One can be assured that Ill be using the gun at hand. |
RE: Coyote Rifle
the 22-250 is a great yote gun. A 223 and 204 will also do the job. One more gun for ya, and I am sure most of you out there will think I am nuts, but depending on the distance a 30-30 would work too. The guns are easy to find, easy to shoot, cheap to purchase, and cheap to shoot. I have used one with no problems...except I didn't hit the darn thing.
